Help Go Pro "action" cameras

Clare bought me a Hero 3 HD silver with in built wifi for Crimbo.

Typically, there's no manual in the box but I've downloaded one & it can be controlled via a smart phone.

Any tips on usage?

Cheers,

I took a look at that video yesterday

I would have loved this 10 years ago when I was very active but Clare bought it for in car use instead of using our iPhones, like when we do the driving holidays & use the cars on track

Setup is quite fiddly for sure, I had to help a mate set one up over the phone and considering I've not used one before we did alright

I'd love to get my hands on one!

Do they by any chance have an HD output that feeds live from the camera in to a TV etc?
Might get one for work if so.

They have a mini hdmi iirc. My mate and I think you need a tv that can control it though as it has no playback buttons.

I've kind of sussed it out. The update site is down but I've linked it to the iphone / ipad app and worked out the controls, settings and live preview. The app makes it simple.

Clare bought me a HDMI cable for it and yes, it links to a TV and the quality is good although not quite as good as my iphone 4s.

It's 1080p at 25 fps in PAL (30 fps in NTSC). I've used my iphone 4s as an in car camera before and it's been excellent in a proper decent mount so this is probably a tad excessive.

I've not got the heart to tell her that though....

I need to use it in car and will do soon

You've not got it setup correctly then as it should blow your iPhone out the water.

Oh goodie, we can watch you drive to work again!

When I was racing I bought a cheapie in-car camera, but would be tempted with a Go-Pro now.....

The hero3 black edition is pretty cool, 120 fps at full 1080p iirc. Very good image quality and colour saturation.

The iPhone specs are impressive. 1080p, 30fps on PAL & with stabilisation.

Will be interesting to compare side by side

Lol. I am tempted to set it to evidence capture more & leave it run. It over writes at pre-defined times. Good protection from errant cyclists in our area & MILFS in 4x4's.

It will be good on track & on our motoring holidays too

The accessories are all adding up

A few extra adhesive mounts, couple of spare batteries (and charger) & a case = £££'s.

Mrs GTL also bought me a GoPro HD 2 version with a wifi back/remote and some other bits n bobs

I did a very wet Javelin Trackday on saturday at Mallory Park, first use of the GoPro, pretty impressed with the workings and results.

I've edited in iMovie 1hr 15mins of footage in two different positions on the car, on the roll bars and the windscreen of the Mx5

If you've got 15mins of time you'd like to waste then take a look here

Looks good, nice, clear and very stable image sound is pretty good apart from the small static like sound?

Now you just need one over the speedo that shows 50mph ala topgear jobby

Also, when you have your wizard exhaust installed, can you record that cause i would love to hear how that sounds in the cabin! :flirt:

Check out the GoPro fanatics forum.

FYI. April firmware update helps with the sound issues & they've just launched a skeleton case which allows for port access when in use (charging which you'll need for sure plus external mic).

Wasabi power spare batteries & charger are a must too.

Also, this is interesting.

Thanks SR

Have ordered the Wasabis and will look at the firmware update over the weekend. The skeleton case came in the box so I guess I got one of theist recent batches.

We'll be using our for the Italy run later this month. Doing the Stelvio etc again

Looking at buying the Frame for the HD3 as seemingly better for in car use.

SR - had a look at that forum, looks v useful, thanks for the link.

Saw your exhaust vid too, sounds v good, which mount are you using. I've ordered the suction mount and still waiting for it but don't like the thought of using the sticky ones. Any tips ?
