cassettes to MP3 help

Hello chaps

Do you know whether this will work with a Mac? It mentions Windows o/s, but no reference to Mac o/s.

UUstar® USB Portable Cassette to MP3 Converter: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics

If not, can you recommend an alternative device that will work with a Mac please? I’m not sure what o/s my Macbook has; it was bought new in Feb 2006, so it has whatever o/s Apple was using at the time. Ideally, I want to covert some cassettes to MP3, pop them on my iTunes on my Mac, then transfer them to the iPod player on my iPhone.

Thanks for your help

If you have a cassette player, does a mac not have a line-in or mic-in? I would expect it would have some means of recording audio in via these means as windows has had sound recorder for ages. You should just be able to hit play and then record on the mac, it'll probably save as WAV uncompressed audio but could easily be converted to MP3 after.

cheers buddy. I don't have any form of cassette player anymore at home, hence why I quite liked this little device. For the price, I might just buy it anyway and see if it works. If it does, it'll give me something to do over Chrimbo

Good luck with that g, but from what I can see, don't expect anywhere near hifi quality from this - let alone Dolby NR or anything else? If you were used to having good-ish quality cassette recordings and playing them on your stereo, you might find this a bit of a letdown.

Although I suppose for the price, it's worth finding out?

Hi Max,

My expectations are pretty low anyway I'll give it a whirl - it might be one of those products that ends up being much better than expected...we'll see

I've copied some cassettes from our Denon hifi to Mrs C's W7 laptop using Audacity and they sound awful. However, I've done the same thing to my old iMac using a very old Sony and they were of a much higher quality.
Be prepared to spend hours splitting them up into individual tracks and cleaning the recordings up

In answer (albeit belatedly) to the original post the ad quoted does say:-

"Plug and play USB device, no drivers required, only for mac older than version 10.5"

well spotted Paul thank you.

Ghosty, alas that would solve only part of the problem. Some of the cassettes never made it to CD (i'm saying nothing! ) and some are mixed music tapes. I'll crack it somehow

Hmmm, makes me wonder what they are... there's stuff I had on cassette thats unavailable digitally but I've had some success finding CDs in foreign markets, especially Germany.
