iTunes 11

Brilliant, new navigation taking a bit of getting used to but overall a very slick upgrade, especially under the Albums view.

Review for those thinking of taking the plunge

Hah, no but I think you'll enjoy it, I'm just going through updating some album artwork and ripping some CDs in that I've bought over the past few weeks.

Upgraded on a Win XP box that is 7 years old and my Win 7 laptop without any problems.

I'm going to have to teach my mum how to use it again though, she uses iTunes for DJing...

Massive improvement over 10, but I'm really missing cover flow.
I avoided the tile view in previous versions as it is slower to navigate, but the new expanded view is good. I'll get used to it!

I like the way it uses the colours from the album for text and background but when you click the in store link it all goes wrong, it looks bloody awful.

I have 309 albums in my library, and very few of them don't look great in expanded view - I like it.

I also noticed the issue with store links. When you click on them, the text needs to be black on white. As it stands now, many albums colours make the text almost unreadable.

Also lacking is a fullscreen version, which is where I really liked cover flow. I might add however, that the new search feature is a major improvement over 10.

Just checked and I've got 630 albums (no idea how I managed that considerin I'm no pirate) and it seems to be working very smooth despite being on an ageing desktop.

I'm glad they retained the column browser, it's what I used to use the most for managing my music, not sure if I need it now though.

I wondered where all my movies had gone.

Then I noticed the dropdown on the "Music" tab - doh.

That must weigh a lot. I recently slimmed mine down to 45GB after a hard-drive crash. I got bored of re-tagging music I can't see myself ever listening to again.

You'll also notice that the menu is incomplete. If you want the full options list, you need to 'show menu bar' to access them, then 'hide menu bar' when finished. The equaliser or visualiser for example.

I did something similar, post Napster I used to download music like mad from ftp rings that hung about on IRC networks, thing was there was almost a competition running to see who had the most music, I downloaded anything and everything, whole discographies of bands I didn't even like.

I ended up having a serious cull and what I ended up with was mostly stuff I had already on CD, Vinyl or Cassette and like you say if you don't listen to it why keep it?
