BT Home Hub 3 - USB port

Has a anyone here experimented with the USB port on the home hub?

When we had a home hub 2 we connected a printer to it and used it as a wireless printer(kind of).

Now with the hub 3 i wanted to use it as network storage. I connected and external HDD (80gb NTFS) and it appeared on the network and loaded fairly quickly however the hub seemed to be so busy looking at the HDD the internet speed dropped so low pages timed out.

Has anyone tried this and got it to work or have any other useful/novel uses for the USB port on a home hub?

its all fun until something falls off.

Install your printer as normal then hook it up to the usb on the hub.

Go into the printer settings and add a new printer port (TCP/IP) and specify it as 192.168.1.253 I think you can give it a name as well. Chose LPR as the protocol queue name LPT1 and turn on byte counting (i have no idea what that is).

If you get stuck let me know. There is a guide online that I used. I will try and find out when I get home.
