Pixel editor

Bit of an odd request I know. I'm looking for some PC software that will allow me to create a an image 240 by 320 pixels precisely, and save it as a bmp file. I know Microsoft Paint can do this, but it's buggy. For example I want to create a dark coloured rectangle and then superimpose white text on it (how hard can that be!) and Paint seems to end up with corrupted colour pixels. After creating the bmp file I'm going to process it into a 'C' data array, but I already have software that can do this.

So does anyone know of a good, reliable, preferably free pixel editor than can save to bmp? Thanks!

I believe, but not sure, that Roxio could do this. I used this a little at my last job and found it a very versatile program, does lots of Multimedia tasks too.

Don't even know if it is still available but it certainly wasn't free.

Hope you can find something to suit for not a lot of dosh !

Philz, paint.net will do this easily and is a far more user friendly app than gimp. the url is Paint.NET - Free Software for Digital Photo Editing

If you are doing some pixelart then turn the rid on in the view options should make it easier to place the pixels.

Sorry, didn't realise they had changed the URL. They used to share it with the company that has it now.
