Broadband issues

The desktop I'm on now keeps losing its broadband connection. The other computers and my phone all retain it fine it's just this one. It's dropping out every 2 minutes or so then it reconnects in a highly annoying fashion. I'm wondering if the wireless adapter thing is knackered.

The router is in the same room and this one is nearer to it than the other computers.

Any thoughts?

I had exactly the same symptoms on Mrs C's laptop a few months ago - I changed the wireless channel the router was broadcasting on (from the default 6 to 1) and that sorted it.

Rule out the interface by hooking up with an ethernet cable, if the same thing happens then its your laptop, if not then its a prblem associated to your wifi.

I wouldn't start changing channels until you know its the wifi for certain.

i've been having similar problems recently, i think i have narrowed it down to a new wireless mouse as the wireless signal is too strong and overpowering the wifi even though it says i have full bars on the wifi signal.

i guess changing the channel might sort mine out too.

have you changed anything since it started happening.

It's a desktop rather than a laptop and whilst it's in the same room as the router it's a fair way from it. I might try swapping the adapater thing (technical terms again) with the desktop upstairs.

I've known cordless phones to cause problems with WiFi; changing channels cured the problem.

if it helps, i changed the channel on mine from automatic, (which seemed to only go to 6 anyway) to channel 4 and it connects instantly every time without problems.
