So it's screen resolution is lower then the ipad 3 yet it's using a 12 core graphics processor while the ipad 3 has a quad core? I dunno reading the specs I don't like it at all.

Looks pretty good to me

I have always loved Apple product (from the very first Macintosh), but they are vastly over-priced and over-hyped.

As a functional tool, are they really that much better than an Android device?

Nope.

Although I think that here the thread should've been entitled "Google take on Amazon". I don't really think Google are actually that bothered by Apple in this instance. Whilst Amazon have scored a notable commercial success with the Kindle Fire they gimped themselves by tying up their App Store in silly restriction which mean the Fire is basically only on sale in the US. Google's market is worldwide and the Nexus 7 is being released in multiple countries (USA, UK, Australia, Canada?).

The size format is also different to the ubiquitous iPad's, 7 inch. Which in my experience is much more useful and portable.

The spec is pretty middling for tablets but for that price is by far the best deal you can get.

Roll on the release of Surface tablets though....

Same old, same old.

Apple fans will say it's **** (because the corners aren't quite as rounded as/are more rounded than an ipad). Android fans will point out that it does all the same stuff as an ipad for half/quarter/third of the price. Apple fans will then accuse android fans of being tight and say that you get what you pay for. Android fans will retort saying that apple fans have been blinded by the bright lights of the apple store.

Next year, apple will launch something new. The year after, Google will launch something similar, then we'll have the same conversations again.

It's like this. If you like apple products, buy them, it's your money, you don't need to justify your choices. If you don't like apple products, buy something else, it's your money, you don't need to justify your choices either. What we all need to do is accept that we all like different things and what other people spend their money on is no concern of mine.

Sermon over.

It's true though, only 7 inch it's designed for portable use, cheaper price bracket, the iPad mini will be the same.

I think out looks quite good apart from the storage capacity. Decent spec well priced.

Does it have a USB port for flash drives or did I dream that up?

If you unlock adn root it, yes.

[GUDE] Unlock and Root a Nexus 7

"Another user discovered that you can install a free app on a rooted Nexus 7 to enable support for USB flash drives and other storage devices. Out of the box, this isnít something the Nexus 7 supports. If you have a rooted tablet, you can download the StickMount app from the Play Store to add support for external storage."
