Any suggested Substitute for Dreamweaver

I'm looking for a piece of web development software. Way back in the good old days I used Frontpage. I've also done some work with Dreamweaver, but I'm wondering if there are any good packages out there that are less expensive and will allow me to edit existing sites (ie I don't want to have to re-write a site in Joomla just to update one page)

Microsoft Visual Web Developer Express

Visual Web Developer 2010 Express | Microsoft Visual Studio

It's free as well, only real limitation is you can only have one solution. I use it regularly on static sites, but you can also create some very flexible dynamic database driven stuff with it.

Will try it later.

Also, I haven't decided if my web stuff should move over to my mac. If so, are there any good mac apps for web development?

Hi

If you just want it for coding then just try Notepad++. Decent editor with syntax highlighting.

All the best

Same here, although I use dreamweaver I use the text editing part to write and modify the code and simply use the software for browsing what I had written.

If you do move to Mac I can thoroughly recommend 'Coda' by a company called Panic. Cheap, and blows most everything else I've used out of the water.

Coda is good and Freeway was always highly thought of. I use textwrangler myself.

I used to use textpad about 10 years ago. Was awesome at the time I bet it's still about too.

I've always thought of upgrading to that, but given textwrangler is so great and free, I've never quite seen the point.
