How to close Ipad apps

Ok, so I am new to the Ipad and it is only ipad1 (with OS5)

but being a PC user I feel the need to close stuff down when i am finished with it,but there is no way of doing this - no "back" button and no exit button...

so how to i free up some memory by closing stuff down?

Double tap home button and an app bar will appear at the bottom of the screen. Long press one of the apps and they'll all start wobbling and showing an X close button.
Tap the x on the ones you wish to close.

ah ok, that sounds nice and simple, but is this not the same way you un-instal an app? (sorry being a complete Ipad novice and windows expert doesn't help me )

Kind of - To delete an app you would repeat the same process but directly from the home screen by long pressing the app you wish to delete. Or delete the app in itunes and re-sync.

Being an iPad, you may feel better giving it a double tap in the military sense
