50GB free cloud storage at box.net ~ ends today

I've not tested the service out but Android users get 50GB of storage free for life if they sign in or sign up to box.net through the new Android app.

I signed up and it told me I have been upgraded to 50gb.

From what I've read it lacks a few of the benefits of dropbox and sugarsync as it doesn't have an automated upload/sync program and has a 100MB file size cap but would still be a handy photo/music backup.

A far as I can see if you borrow someones Android and sign in you get I upgraded.

Offer runs out at 23:59 tonight. Hope this helps someone.

its all fun until something falls off.

Damn, missed this.
Can anyone recommend any other types of Cloud storage? Would like to get one that had a desktop app that sync'd a NAS to the Cloud.

Depends how much you have to back up. Dropbox and sugarsync are the two main players, both with desktop apps that look after everything automatically. Dropbox give you 2GB for free and sugarsync give you 5GB for free, after that you need to stump up cash.
Sugarsync are cheaper.

Box only has a Web interface for home users.

Another one worth checking is Ubuntu one. Has a desktop app and gives 5GB for free.

No reason you can't try them all asks pick your fave.

Also, sugarsync and Ubuntu one allow you to stream your music to your phone

Many thanks. I don't mind paying. Could do with about 15GB for a backup of our stuff.
I do have a USB HDD to backup the NAS on to but all backups under one roof are not a great idea.

If you have a hotmail account you get 25GB as part of Microsoft's skydive. No automated desktop client though.

Yes, something to keep it snyc'd is quite crucial, no point in having new data not backed up.

Stumbled on this last night - http://technomondo.com/2012/02/20/mi...ndows-and-mac/

Microsoft are working on a desktop sync program for skydrive. nothing official from Microsoft and probably no support for XP.

Depends on how patient you are, and if you want too gamble on backing up sooner rather than later.

Maybe I should invest in a new router and start hosting backups on my server... If only I'd saved up more for the bigger NAS.
