Sent emails appearing in 'Sent Items'

Some time ago I got a smartphone and spent some time setting up my Virgin email account in the imap format to enable me to send, receive and manipulate my emails, from my phone, my home computer, or work/other computers, via my webmail.

After some initial teething troubles, this has worked really well. The only thing that doesn't seem to work is that if I send an email from my home computer, this doesn't appear in my 'Sent Items' folder (whether looking from my phone, on webmail from a remote computer, or indeed, on my home computer - they're all synchronised of course). If I send an email from my phone or webmail via a remote computer, this does appear in my Sent Items (viewable from phone, home computer or remote computer).

I'm thinking this is almost certainly to do with the settings on the email software on my home computer, but after a couple of looks, I can't seem to find where to enable this? The software in question is Outlook 2010.

Any ideas folks?

Most likely...
When you send from Outlook, it will be in a sent items folder on your computer - it won't sit on a server anywhere, so your other devices won't see it.
Not sure how you'd set it up to put the files somewhere on the server, I'm sure there's some way to do it, but I'd need to think about it...

No, it's not in Sent Items on my computer, I've looked. Surely the whole point of imap is that sent items do appear in Sent Items on the server? This is the case with items sent from my phone or from a remote computer.

I spotted the same thing when I started to use an iMac at home, but then noticed that a separate send folder had been create on both the iMac and my iPhone to hold items sent from the other device.

Why? Not a clue! Do I understand the logic of it? No!

Have you checked all your folders in case something similar has happened with you?

Yeees......but I don't really care!

An e-mail s an e-mail is an e-mail and if a "conversation" is split between devices it seems a bit odd.

That said, now I know it happens stuff is easy enough to find.

Yes, from memory, and regarding the content of those emails. Also, ones from my phone have the postscript 'Sent from my HTC' attached.
