I'm using Avast anti-virus at the moment and yesterday, when I opened a perfectly innocent application, Avast started screaming about a Sandbox (I think), crashed the PC and appears to have deleted half of its own files as a way of 'protecting' me.

It all worked perfectly well until Avast insisted that I upgrade to the latest program.

Not impressed.

The search for a Spyware program continues - my past favourite Spybot doesn't appear to be fully Windows 7 compatible, according to the website.

I'd go with what abyss said with Microsoft security essentials and run an occasional Malwarebytes scan. Would stop the malwarebytes from "live" protection tho. More trouble than it's worth.
