Car diagnostic software.

You have proved yourselves to be quite a knowlwdgable bunch, so I am asking for a reccommendation.

I am after some easy to use Diagnostic software for use with my ELM327 cable and my BMW/BMW Mini (i know).
I have a copy of bmw's DIS software but am too scared and cautious to install it as it means setting up my wifes laptop as a virtual machine which is way above my head.
I have used fiat ECU scan before and was quite happy with that and impressed with the results.
I am not looking to spend a lot of (ideally I would like a limited/shareware version).
Any reccommendations would be most welcome as I have ploughed through hundreds of google pages and dont know the bad from good.
Thanks.

Are we nearly there yet?

Download daemon tools lite and create a .iso file if possible with your bmw software.. mount the image file and it will run straight away without the need of the cd. If its not on a cd and is a file, what file type is it. Using daemon tools is very simple to get to grips with.. I always make virtual copies of my games and software as I have a netbook so can't use cds. If all else fails delete and uninstall, nothing to lose

Thanks for the suggestions. Turns out my cable is a VAG-COM KKL usb. Am having trouble getting the computer to interface with it (no matter what port settings I tinker with). Might think about the bluetooth option as it would be much more handy.

Have you installed the chipset driver?

Can be found here:

Virtual COM Port Drivers

If needed.

ive got a USB interface that im trying to get to work on FES but its not having any thing to do with it as in the laptop device manager its shown as a USB device and not a USB serial port, ive had a look at that website and d/led what i can but with no success in getting the laptop to show it as a COM port instead of the USB, the old KKL vagcom interface i have works fine and shows up as a Com port but the new cable ive got thats ELM 327 i need for the 159 will not change :s how do i go about sorting this problem out?

Just got hold of Torque and have ordered a BT OBD2 dongle.

How have you configured your car?
What is the "Boost Adjustment" of my car?
What is the "Volumetric Efficiency %" of my car?

Does any of that matter?
