Visual C# 2010 Express

Anyone used this? Since it appears to be free I'm wondering if it would be any good for designing a PC app with simple file editing, file storage and some reasonable graphics. I'm guessing there will be reason why I need to buy Visual Studio 2010 rather than using a free program but I can't see it at the moment. Would I be wasting my time with the express version? (I haven't used C# before).
