Rechargeable battery lawn mowers

Anyone got one? There's a make called Oregon advertised heavily in the Screwfix catalogue this month.

I have to say that my petrol Suffolk Punch cylinder mower is getting a bit long in the tooth now and is a sod to start and weighs a ton.

I hate having cables flailing around when I mow the lawn and I need a lot of length (oo-er) due to garden being a bit big.

I was going to go for a replacement petrol mower like a Mountfield rotary - but now I've seen these rechargeable johnnies I'm tempted.

A decent Mountfield petrol mower man enough to do my lawns is about 350 squids. A replacement Suffolk Punch is about 500 squids. The Oregon mower is 149 squids plus you need to buy a rechargeable battery and charger which are about 200 squids.

I assume that if the Oregon motor dies after a few years you save on the fact that you only replace the 149 mower and not the battery/charger unit.

Didn't Bazza have his man testdrive a load recently?

You can guarantee that if the motor dies, the battery will be incompatibe with the new motor. Oregon are generally fine though - a top level supplier of decent parts in the chainsaw world.

The rotary won’t give as nice a set of stripes as the Punch. Fix up the Punch, they’re largely indestructable.
