Android phones

Who is on Android and if so, have any of you upgraded to Android 8.0 Oreo and if so, what's it like? Is it any better than version 7?

I am currently on version 7.1.1.

Still waiting. One source suggests that I'll get the update in January/February.

What does Oreo deliver over "Nuggat" ?

I've not been keeping up recently as everything
is currently working nicely.

Well January has already finished, unless you mean 2019?

I'll have to do some research, my phone is providing me with notifications to update it about every 2 hours!

Still running 7.1. Something on my phone and tablet. No prompts to "upgrade" but not really sure that Oreo will give me much more than I already have. Happy with nuggat.

Version 8.0 has a few subtle changes but eveything seems to work as it should for me. One of the nice changes is that even when your phone is locked, you can still perform some actions, such as turning off the radio / podcast and replying to whatsapps and texts, without unlocking the screen.

My son Jack just got the Motorola Moto G5 Plus....he had the Moto G4 which he loved but stuffed it to the gills with music so it needed more storage....and then refused to work properly.

Will see how he gets on with this one............probably gonna moan...but hey ho...bloody kids !!

Correct, I have been adjusting to the idea that there are apps for almost everything (there weren't many made for the windows phone/OS) and even though it's 32 Gb, I think will be running out of room soon.

I recently downloaded Poweramp to listen to music, it's sooo much better than play music (made by Google).

Looks like it's SD card time. The availability of apps was one of the reasons I went for Android over Windows - that & the fact that most reviewers think that Windows phones are crap.

I'll second that!

On the Oreo front, I thought my update had finally arrived last week when I saw that a software upgrade was available. . . turns out it was just the November 2017(!) security patch.

I am on the trial version of Poweramp at the moment, I believe that I will have to go for the paid version but don't have too much of a problem with that.

I already had an SD card, which was full up when I took it out of the Windows phone and that is in now in the Moto - I guess I might have to get a new SD card.....

Agreed, however that wouldn't solve the problem of the phone filling up, which has now happened, so I did two things.
1. Purchased and installed a 64Gb memory card but that did not solve the issue of there being too much data on the phone.
2. In my my podcast player, I cleared all the downloaded items* and the cache, which meant that I lost all the podcast episodes and associated data , on the plus side, I have now gained a total of 74Mb space! I have (re)signed to the podcasts that I listened to previously and anything that I download from now on will be written to the SD card.

*#cough# not pron.

How did you format the SD card? If it's formatted as internal storage the "migrate data" function should, I think, have transferred your podcasts to it.

. . . & I'm still waiting for Oreo!
