New CD player and radio combination

Mother has a Bose wave system in the kitchen and the CD player has stopped working. When she took it to be repaired, the fella there told her that the component in the CD player which failed, is known to be unreliable and costly to repair, so she has been put off Bose and a new machine is required.

Although she has used my sister's Sonos, she hasn't got in to the idea of streaming yet, so the brief for the new machine is that it needs to have a CD player and FM and it needs to an integrated unit (so no separate speakers) basically one that is similar size to, and quality of, the Bose - I was continually impressed with its bass output. Additional items that I think it should have are: DAB and a USB input and/or Bluetooth - these functions are mostly for me but she has an iPad and an iPhone and I think she should learn to start to use the streaming capailities of those items.

I suggested the Ruark R4 Mk3 but that was rejected on the grounds of size and it's a bit costly too.

So I think we're down to this Yamaha

Have you guys and girls got any recommendations?

Can't you just get a portable CD player for 20 quid and plug it into
the Bose's aux-in?

No suggestions from me. Downstairs we have an i-Bone 3GS in a dock

Upstairs is a 'puter with some 2.1 squeakers I bought about 15 years ago.

*I do have a soundbar on the telly box though*

Philips sound is pretty good.

I've an old one of their's plus an original iPod Touch still as my bedside radio.
(+ 10 years and still going.)

And I've a bluetooth travel speaker of theirs too.

Both give more than adequate bass.

Not sure the one I posted has a radio but
their website suggests one in the range does.

This, although it would not harm to give one an audition.

That is a good suggestion, thank you.

I have had a lightbub moment in that that this could also be picked up and then plugged in to a more modern speaker device (yet to be purchased but it could have streaming capabilities), such as a soundbase, in another room....

What did you go for in the end?

I am thinking of trying to persuade Mum to get a soundbase for the TV.

Hmm, that looks rather nice, although for the money, I would at least expect a USB port!

I think that this is the up to date equivalent of the one that Mum has, are you sitting down?
