Can someone put my mind at ease? (another phishing email?)

Tonight I received yet another unsolicited email and thought nothing of it - until I noticed that they had ALL of my previous address details and my full name.

The attached document is apparently a contract, but after virus scanning it and opening in a safe browser, there was nothing there (although there is something - albeit garbled - if I open it with wordpad or notepad).

I'm sure it's just to be ignored, but where the hell have they got my details from: a hacked account from 4 years ago, public domain, etc?

Has anyone encountered this before?

Nothing Italian

It's a scam and attack. Do not open the attachment as it has a viral payload.

You're details have been purchased based on some of the many leaks of personal information mostly down to companies having really crap security although they will all blame sophisticated hackers and possibly state backed actors.

I had one that had my name and address in it. They are doing the rounds.

Yes indeed, ignore it.

Most companies will if urgent use snail mail or a telephone. Mostly when emails looks odd they are. I tend to bin 90% of emails none work related I get.

Forward it to my brother-in-law he loves opening scam emails and sending off his bank details and passwords, three times in the past couple of years.

His defence was that he replied to these scams because they related to three different organisations, PayPal, eBay and his Amazon account. If they were all from one organisation he'd have picked up on it.

So they were a bit sneaky.

Name and address alone is pretty useless, its public information - there used to be a book printed with everyones names and addresses, even phone numbers too - crazy right

Hi, Craig!

I am disturbing you for a very critical matter. Though you don't know me, but I have a lot of information about you. The fact is that, most probably by mistake, the info about your account has been emailed to me.
For instance, your address is:

********
*********

I am a lawful citizen, so I decided to caution] you, that your PayPal account may have been hacked. I I received, that you could find out what information has become accessible for fraudsters. Document password is - 7607

Best regards,
Maynard Dhillon

I got that one too. I was quite surprised. The address they had was from 9 years ago though (my parents house).
