Best garage for maintenance and upgrades to Alfas? .

I live in North Devon and am looking for AOC members' opinions to find the best garage for maintenance of, and upgrades to, an Alfa 156.

What are your experiences, please?

Thanks

Black 159 jtdm

I would second the recommendation of Duncan Slade. He's recently done the servicing, cambelt and EGR diagnosis on my 159 and was brilliant. Much better price than the dealer and was obviously knowledgable about Alfa's. Would be my first port of call and I live near Bath

Have a look at Longstones near Bridgewater, I am going to use them to do a cam belt change on my Spider. Only 70 miles away, I would advise that you stay away from Vospers.

Again I shall vouch for Duncan Slade, I have his number if required.

Top bloke.... Swaped my clutch in just a little over 3 hours and the standard of work exceeds Main Stealers

I don't doubt that Duncan Slade is a top bloke, but for us who live on the peninsular, a lot of garages that people recommend are a long way away, thus adding considerably to the cost and inconvenience on getting repairs / servicing done. The closest I have found to me in Bideford is Vospers at Exeter, and I wouldn't give them the time of day, and Longstones near Bridgewater, 80 mile round trip for Vospers, and 140 mile round trip for Longstones.

Where is Duncan Slade?

Dear Mr. Prop-plop,

See now, that is a 200 mile round trip, or to put it another way, about 45 squids in fuel. I suppose in the greater scheme of things if you was say going to get a cam belt service, and the bloke is top notch, it's worth considering, but for lesser work, it's out of the question for me. Mind you, any lesser work should be within the remit of any competent local garage I suppose.

Kindest regards as always, Mr. Muff.

I know this thread is a couple of weeks old now but another option is Luis from LB Autos in Somerton. Tel no 01458 274499.

He is a great mix of Italian and yokel and really knows his Alfasas well as another Italian marques. Absolutely top notch job on my 159 cam-belt and much cheaper than the dealers.

Incidentally, I had a letter from Longstones yesterday to advise they are no longer trading. The Alfa servicing franchise for the area has gone to Huttons (Fiat) in Weston super Mare. I've only used them for oil changes (because they stock Selenia) and they seem ok to be fair and pretty reasonable. Some Fiat forums slate them however so the jury is out for me.

I will second this recommendation, Lui is a top bloke.
He's done my cars for many years now, I've recommended him on this forum before and will continue doing so.

Just had my spider serviced there. Bit hidden away, great service and he cured my nasty steering noise....even polished out a nasty scrape on the front skirt. Thanks she's running great.

Is Plymouth too far for you? If it isn't I recommend nigel ellis. He's worked on my gta and ive been very pleased with his work and enthusiasm.

Perhaps a bit late but Optima in Royal Wootton Bassett has an excellent reputation - they've always done excellent work for us.....
