No more Ongaro?

So I've been to a few Alfa specialists that I haven't been particularly happy with over the years, some that I've travelled a long way to visit. I followed advice from this forum and checked out Ongaros a couple of years ago and since then I've been really happy with the work they've done. I've just picked up my Giulia Super, looking the car over Graham has done an excellent job again. However I discovered they're being taken over by Vospers as of the first of May.

Took me a while to find a garage I can trust - I even take the Montreal there for it's MOT / service - and I know Graham's staying on but I have no experience of the way Vopsers do business. I did see they were shoe horning in an extra couple of lifts.

It's not like we're overflowing with good Alfa specialists here in the SW.

Re: No more Ongaro?

Thanks for the info - I didn't know what was happening. If the same guys are staying then it shouldn't be too bad, but I need mine serviced in May so I guess I'll find out.

I don't have much experience with Vospers either, though there was a comment in the GTA forum to the effect of the Exeter branch being poor.

Re: No more Ongaro?

Yes, Ongaros will be no more Though the back bone of the company Graham is staying (Not for the want of) but your money goes to Vospers.
I feel for Graham as the quality of his work makes Ongaro's the company it is/was today. Now the poor chap will feel alienated by numbers with spotty *** YTS boys moving into his work place.
He's not happy, I'm not happy, you guy shouldn't be happy and I will never give them my money. Fook'em.

Is there an alternative though? I guess there is the Scorrier dealer.

Is Jonathan staying too, or just Graham?

I wouldn't let Scorrier touch my car.
Just Graham.
If you want me to explain better I will PM you my number.

Re: No more Ongaro?

i'm going to play devil advocate here....for what i feel is good reason....

I, like others do not like Vospers and their business model, however, the backbone of the original business has been tied into the deal for whatever reason, and i would imagine so have most of the staff, for the time being, so why not make hay whilst the sun shines and use them, and their expertise?

Yes i know it is lining Peter Vospers pocket, but who decided to sell the business? who decided to stay on and support the business?

at the end of the day it is a garage that will most likely continue to specialise because the staff within it have that knowledge, when the day comes that this is not the case then it is time to more on, until then use and be used

Re: No more Ongaro?

Does anyone know what level of training Vospers and or Bradleys have put into technicians i.e. are they Alfa certified with the ARMT, ARTE or ARME qualifications. let's not forget that you need different skill sets for a Modern and an old Alfa. So you may find one is better than the other depending on the age and model of you Alfa.

Re: No more Ongaro?

I'm not going into all the details as I get fed up typing things again and again.
To sum it up Graham is the SW Alfa God!
Vospers will want all cars turned around ASAP in-out-MONEY Job done!
They have put another 3 ramps in. Graham is the only Alfa guy there.
Vospers is full of Cowboys in my books and it all about ££££
Work will suffer in our minds and Graham is
Don't blame him.
Johnathan sold out because the price was to good to refuse.
Again, it's all money to Vospers

Re: No more Ongaro?

Speaking to Jonathan as well, he's heading to Italy I believe? Don't blame him - one of the hardest working guys i've ever had the pleasure to meet.

If Vospers can keep the Alfa Romeo service standards going, I don't mind- but somehow I think that the workshop won't be filled with plants and classical music when they move in...

Can anyone imagine Graham MOT'ing Transits?? (The new ramps are for commercials....)

That said - i'll be booking the car in for a Q2 while Graham is still there - and need to see them about a leaky thermostat clip fitted a few months back by the guys.. So i'll report back! Hope they don't forget about the needs of our older cars.

Good mod choice. Q2 is well worth the money and it's a very fun bit of kit. When she going in?

Re: No more Ongaro?

Has she found a GTA then?

I've found it excellent to drive with the Q2 but I never had a chance to try it without so I couldn't really comment. Everyone in the GTA lounge reckons it is the most cost effective mod / best one to start with

Is Jonathan staying around for a while yet then?

not a GTA - She's got her "sensible" head on, and getting a 2.5 V6 Veloce - Well fingers crossed it gets a clean inspection!

Should be a goodun, especially when there are two v6's chasing each other around Cornwall....

I think it's gonna be down to how you and the missy drives. If you love the bends it's worth the money for both.

Johnathans last day is Friday

Re: No more Ongaro?

Cool - I looked at a 2.5 before I found the GTA... they are great cars. Plenty of fun

Hope the inspection goes well. You'll have to post some pics.

I had this too - luckily rach can have my car! (think the issue is insuring the car - they will let you have one as long as it's fully comp and covered, otherwise they charge. (Wierd that every dealership i've worked at, the courtesy car is insured and free)

Still booked in for the day to get a couple of bits done on Tues next week, Graham is still there!

Any ideas where you are going to go?

I'm booked in for the end of May since Graham is still there. I understand that Jonathan is still around for Alfa customers during a handover period.
