alfa specialists in the SW

Hi all,

I am considering returning to the ranks of alfa owners, and my decision will be to some extent shaped by the proximity (or not) of a good alfa specialist to my new location. Who do people rate in the south west to work on their precious alfas?

I am looking for a good indie garage happy to do regular servicing, and the odd bit of tinkering as well.

Cheers.

Aha. I see a flaw in my plan

I live in Axbridge, North Somerset. I will be commuting to Taunton on a regular basis. But I will travel for the right garage, just don't want it to be a million miles that's all.

I get my Trophy serviced in Exmouth, so Exeter would not be too much of a stretch. Have you got their contact details and what are they like?

Hi rafe005

Sorry to dredge up an old post, but i don't suppose you have contact details for Auto Italiana? More specifically a phone number as the one listed on the site isn't recognised.

Hope they've not gone bust...

In the meantime, can anyone else recommend a trusted Alfa specialist in the SW?

Cheers!

I'm also looking for one to do a service on my 159 JTDM. Exeter as above or Bristol (I've been to Steve Bateman and would again for mechanical stuff but he doesn't have the 'laptop' to plug into the 159).

TIA

Cheers to you both, Badger and Mike. Will give Red Motari a buzz, purely because the Bridport/Dorchester/Blandford road is a beaut!

Cheers again!

In Bristol the best bloke as far as I'm concerned and often mentioned on AO is Duncan Slade 07968 488942 (in BS5). Well known for his good work and modest charges.

Any of you in need of a darn good mechanic, just located above Bristol in Yate then try Paul Barret ( https://www.alfaowner.com/Forum/membe...barrett98.html ) He's just replaced the engine in my GTV for me (thanks Autolusso for suppling it), and done a fantastic job, seeing as it was done in the evenings and weekends. Very, very experianced mechanic, mot tester, and getting intp Alfas big time! (photo album of the engine change will be available soon!).

Hey Vamos, if you're working in taunton, Bensport Alfa is just in Ilton which is only 15 minutes on the outskirts of taunton. i use them a few times as i work in taunton and are very friendly and helpfull, plus the prices are very resonable.

Thumbs Up Alfa Specialist in Somerset

This is my first post but having run Alfas for over 30 years in the South West, finding the right garage to look after them has been increasingly hit and miss since FIAT took over. If you have a new Alfa, Longstones in Cannington are the latest Main Dealer who I have limited experience of. I've visited them and they are enthusiastic and courteous but I have no further experience as yet although have heard only good about their service department so I'm sure they would be worth trying.

As I remember, Seymour Horwell (N Abbot) were always enthusiastic, Goose Green (Exeter & Torrington) were great until boss Nick ???????'s son crashed my Sprint Veloce! Winners (N Abbot too) were dependable which is more than can be said for subsequent 'Main Dealers' in Exeter. Alan Bennet (BenAlfa - Westbury) restored and maintained a '65 Giulia Sprint (wish we still had it) but I had a so so experience with a guy in Cheddar (good mechanic / less sound businessman) and struggled with various garages thereafter until I was recommended to call Lui of LB Autos in Somerton.

I bought a 166 3.0 Super almost four years ago and took it straight to them. A service, new clutch, brakes and exhaust plus various minor niggles due to neglect were quickly sorted as were the various suspension 'issues' and the car went beautifully until an old biddy caused it to be written off. This was replaced with a GTV V6 that I drove for 9 months and thought was great until LB gave it a full service a couple of weeks ago - what a transformation! It now drives and feels like the baby Ferrari that the Magazines raved over.

Lui is a star, always eager to help, amazingly knowledgeble, ever cheerful and always does his best to keep costs down.

Given that they are less than 20 miles from Taunton my only regret is that I didn't find them sooner - Hope this helps...

Their details are as follows:-

L. B. AUTOS, CAMELOT COURT, SOMERTON BUSINESS PARK, SOMERTON, TA11 6SB
Tel: 01458 274 499

I will second that, I have used Lui for many years now and he does know his stuff.
Recently got my 33 running better that its ever done and ive just completed a 1200 mile round trip to Spa-italia in it without missing a beat and that included a 1 hour thrash around the circuit.

alfa romeo

Just bought my 1998 156 2.5 v6 127,000 on the clock with no service history so i think i took a chance in buying it but it was cheap good body work but the engine would keep cutting out didnt want to go to main dealer and i have had problems with garages around here (cullompton/exeter area) then i found rowleys garage just out side cullompton.
Took it to them asked if they would sort out the cutting out and could they also check everything else before i started to spend to much money on it. They found the breather pipes were cracked put in new spark plugs changed all filters flushed it through new oil etc etc. They said for the age it was a good car and what a difference it really goes well. What i am saying is i found rowleys very helpful they rang me before they did any work on the car and told me how much it would cost they have a rolling road full diagnostic equipment really helpful people. So if anyone with a alfa around this area i found them really good have a look at there web site its Welcome - rowleysgarage
