airbag light won't fail the MOT - just get an advisory.....you'll need either a dealer/specialist or somebody with the right cable/software to reset the light once the problem has been fixed (hopefully just a loose wire under a seat or similar)

Airbag light is coming for mot. not sure if here already or if it's April it comes in but it will fail it when it does.

Would say check connections under seats first.... often come loose.

I can diagnose it for you and if its an intermittent fault, clear the lamp.

Download a free copy of FiatECUScan. Buy a KKL lead set (something like this):-

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ALFA-FIAT-...item3a6fea8f00

Or an ELM327 leadset like this:-

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ELM-327-v1...item4162431905

NOTE: I am not 100% certain that both types of leadsets will work with this car but there is a set here with both types of main lead that will definitely have you covered:-

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ELM-327-v1...item4162431817

Or send a PM to rarebear on here and buy his leads. He is the expert and he may well be the ebay seller (not 100% sure of that either though.)

Do it yourself. The connector is above the fuses. The fuses are behind the panel that is below the sterring wheel; two crosshead screws on the panel (one either side and below the steering wheel) and the panel hinges down. You need the red adaptor and it plugs into the car with the widest part of the lead at the bottom.

The leads with software will pay for itself many, many times over as your seatbelt warning will re-appear when you next move either the driver or passenger seat as those connectors under the seat are temperamental buggers. Also the leads and software will real all codes and reset most - your own reader and resetter for £55 is a bargain.

NOTE: if you are going to play around with the plug connectors under the seat some people recommend disconnecting the battery for a few minutes and leaving it disconnected while doing so. You don't want an air bag to trigger do you?

Yep can confirm that the air bag light will be part of the MOT as of April.
God help us Alfa owners then with dashboards like blinking fairy lights

Currently my airbag light is on and the ECU tells me its the pillar airbag that has the fault and I cannot clear it. Anyone have any advice on how to rectify - any procedures that should be followed? Obviously don't want to set the thing off so I assume that battery disconnected is #1 but after that I'm not sure what to look for.

My 156 had airbag light....

Turned out to be the two yellow connectors under right hand side boot lining. They go to roof curtain airbags. Pulled plugs apart and nipped up the metal that connects to the pins, WD40'd, cable tied them closed and light gone.

Guess 147 has similar roof connectors. Seems in most cases it's either under seat connections or boot connections.

I have cable in tayport if your ever passing nearby to read the codes

Cheers Mr Mac, I have cable, as I've ID'd the fault but obviously I'm being a numpty and not using it properly as didn't think to look for the fault code. Will check out the connections suggested - seems a general issue across all models. Thanks again!
