Re: Alfa garage Dublin

Try Gerry Campbell, TI Autos, 1 Cowper Street Dublin 7. 8386567

Gerry's place doesn't look like much, but he really knows his stuff and won't rip you off... He is down a lane beside the school on Cowper St. The only problem is that he is usually busy, everybody who loves their alfas leaves them with Gerry to look after... I shouldn't even be telling you, you will just make him busier

Good luck

Re: Alfa garage Dublin

I can vouch for Gerry too. I have been going to him for 2 years now and will keep going to him. I got my car back just 2 weeks ago from a major service - she drives like a dream. Unlike other garages Gerry wont rip you off!!

Re: Alfa garage Dublin

You have obviously not seen Gerry's garage yet, if he has a pricelist he probably can't find it....

Seriously though, once he knows what he has to do he will give you a pretty good idea of what a job is likely to cost, and will give you a ring beforehand if he discovers anything frightening...

He keeps the old bits to show you what he did and why he did it, you will have a hard time finding anybody better to look after your bella...

Re: Alfa garage Dublin

In end I did,t need to get the belts done, just the water works, he gave me a ballpark figure of around 350 euro for the labor involed in changing the belts, any parts needed would be extra, probably the best thing would be to give him a ring, Gerry Campbell, TI Autos, 1 Cowper Street Dublin 7. 8386567.

Re: Alfa garage Dublin

I have used Gerry Campbell a few times. Twice for the cambelt. He has got to be the King of Alfa in Ireland!!!!!!Last belt change in Jan 06 was circa €750-800. Way cheaper than rubbish dealers.

Not really head down to the Sweep in Waterford. They are very cheap and great mechanics down there too.

Re: Alfa garage Dublin

Hey there

I have been getting my 147 serviced by Gerry for the last 3 years and wouldn't hesitate to recommend him.

However I've moved to Kildare and would like to avoid going into the city if I can.

I saw a guy mentioned on the AlfaIreland forum, and found this thread on Boards when I googled.

Anyone used George Frayne in Naas before?

Yup!
I have used GF in Naas before.
Great is you own a Peugeot, but for Alfa's.....errr..?
My experience wasn't all that positive but it had nothing to do (arguably) with mechanical ability (car's are kept in the yard and not indoors..so a few small belongings disappeared from my car, and it looked like someone tried to force entry at the drivers door... he has installed camera's which should help the situation).
Also, you really need to tell him you want it "urgently" otherwise it will take sometime before it is done.

Use TI Autos.

Re: Alfa garage Dublin

I couldn't reccomend Gerry Campbell enough either. He knows Alfas inside out so you don't have to pay him for scratching his head wondering what the problem was. Dead easy guy to deal with to. You don't have the added trouble of dealing with a wiseguy/

If you're on the southside, or Gerry is busy, I can suggest Ambrose Glass in Kilternan.

Re: Alfa garage Dublin

I can't recommend main dealer Alasta Autos (the Ballsbridge end of Ringsend ) highly enough for the experience of their chief Mechanic Stanley Faulkner, he is probably the most knowledable Alfa mechanic in the country.. And a wealth of experience of other brands too (old classics to modern stuff) .
Alfa main dealer rates is dearer than Gerry I'm sure, but very fast, flexible service. They have never neglected any small detail I have reported.
Besides any normal maintenance, routine and preventative - I have had him do tons of advanced changes beyond most garages here including engine rebuilds with custom parts, custom suspension changes and tweaks, various limited slip differential installs, etc etc.

He is a true enthusiast (ex racer) who has time for fellow enthusiasts, and has got me out of a few tricky situations at VERY short notice to make track days or my AO nurburgring trip possible!

Top marks..

BTW if you were thinking of getting any Autodelta stuff installed in Ireland he would be the man to go to..

Cheers,
TB

I'm not a doctor - but I really do recommend braking later

Re: Alfa garage Dublin

I've never had a problem with work done in Alasta, and Stanley is a real font of knowledge, the only problem is the bill in Alasta always makes you cringe....

I have used them if Gerry is on holidays and something needs doing quick (cracked sump on my GTV, for example..!). If I have a choice between the two I would always pick Gerry - same level of knowledge and enthusiasm, just a lot smaller garage and bills!!

Re: Alfa garage Dublin

Dont know about a price for the wishbones but it shouldnt be too expensive, as long as you steer clear of the stealers, its a pretty straightforward job.
I did mine in a couple of hours and I'm no mechanic.
Have heard nothing but good reports about Gerry at Ti, I think getting an appointment might be your only problem.
