Some news I thought you'd like

So last year I said goodbye to my beloved GTV, thankfully it went to a good home.
Anyway, long story short I got s brand spanking new Golf.

However, take a gander at the email I just got from the garage when asked what they just replaced.
Let me know if something catches your eye.

Oil pump failed and took out the timing belt while I was on the inside lane of the M4.

If anyone looks closely about 20 metres before the 2km sign for exit 7 Maynooth westbound there is still a huge oil patch where the engine shat itself!

They told me as a precaution they were going to replace the engine.

After a week I got it back but I noticed there were petrol fumes coming into the cabin, so went back for another week to get sorted, some pipe leaking petrol vapour.

Is it bad that the first thing that caught my eye was the surname and I immediately assumed a link with Ti Autos!?

Its mad that its less hassle for VW to drop in a new unit than deal with the potential fallout from repairing the old one.

Anyway, hopefully the rest of your ownership experience will be less intense Gav!

I have the 1.2 TSI which is, simply put, adequate. The 1.4 is where you'd want to be, (preferably in a Giulietta amirite ).
I did spec it up nicely though, it's a highline with sport pack so stiffer suspension, bigger wheels and a slight tint in the rear windows do I have to say it really is a nice car to drive and be in.
When it was being fixed they had me driving an Astra from Enterprise that had a horrible plastic interior and way to many dash buttons. The second time it was bing fix they gave me a Polo which was grand, and way better than our Clio with a similar engine but was really rough on when idling so I thought it was a diesel at first.
One thing I did notice when in the showroom was that the Passat and Golf Estate have exactly the same wheelbase and length so if you are thinking of going for a new Passat with for the big boot go for the Golf Estate, as they are identical back three!
But sure who am I talking to it will be Giulia Estates all round in here, I'll be queueing with you!!

They didn't even know if any damage was done, they just replaced the engine!
