what's your line..

just wondering what is everyone's favorite haggling line

like when buying a car for example what is your best way of getting money off

do u do the pull out the handful of cash trick and say "thats all i have take it or leave it..."

to me if someone has a car for sale for example at 2000euro u and the seller both know he is at least willing to take 1800euro am i right in thinking that? so whats the best play to get an even bigger chunk off?

i need tips

This will sound counter intuitive, but I prefer to walk away with a fair enough deal where you're both happy. This squeeze every last bit of 'discount' out of him isn't for me.
The old do unto others as you would have done unto you.
Hasn't let me down yet....
Also better to buy a better car for a bit more money than a 'bargain' that's a money pit.

Fair ammo is looking at similar cars/condition/year/mileage/service history and using them as a barometer. If it's similar and priced lower than others then 10% is plenty off in my opinion....

I'm with Rory on this one. Offer what you think its worth. If the seller wont accept, or you don't like the asking price, then its not the car for you.

I paid full asking price for the last 2 cars I purchased.

I paid the screen price from an Alfa dealer for my TI.
But i love a bit of haggling.
Got a 100 more on my 156 part ex.
Car mats
20 petrol
a service although it had one 3 months earlier
12 months Alfa waranty
12 month RAC cover
Some paint done to a few marks
6 months tax

I try to buy bangers that need tonnes of work but I have the bits for/donor cars at home. I usually always get prices on parts and use that as a bargaining chip too.

Perfect example is a mint 406 I have that needed a turbo when I was buying it. Needless to say I had a choice of turbos sitting in a box in the garage

This is how I've managed so far not to spend over 600 buying a car, on a long list of cars
