There were 23,000 new cars sold in the Republic this January, up 25% on 2013, so Alfa Romeo's performance of just 3 sales is equivalent to a market share of .01%, a very sad and unsustainable result for such a historic and respected marque.
There seems to be absolutely zero effort to promote the superb Alfa Giulietta here in Ireland, a car that finished 7th in the last Auto Express Driver satisfaction survey ahead of Golf, A3 and Focus. It should also be possible to acquire a few Mini/Beetle sales with the Alfa Mito which is a decent effort if not as competitive as the Giulietta.

Agree with you there on the lack of promotion! Be interesting to know how many people outside of car/alfa enthusiasts know of the giulietta?
I'd doubt many of the purchasers of base spec A3s, golfs and focus's know of it.
Then suggest to them that they should buy an alfa and they say straight away that they're unreliable due to what the man in the local said.

Combine that with the lack of saloon model and your shut out of the rep market as well.

They need to get out there and promote the brand

At the same time, as selfish as this sounds, I don't want numpties who don't know what a dipstick is having alfas. There's nothing worse than seeing a neglected alfa.

Pm for good price on parts for your 156 v6

After long enquiries, I've discovered two things:

1. The 1.6 JTDm2 Lusso is effectively the only model currently on sale in Ireland. As far as I can see, Alfa seem to be selling down existing stocks of the pre-facelift cars.

2. the Giulietta Model Year 2014 is being launched in Ireland during "the second quarter". Technically, that started today, but I wouldn't hold my breath. Until this launch, there is no pricelist or trim information for the new cars.

I'm waiting because the MY2014's Euro6 engines are much more tax-friendly, with four models taxable for €200 or less a year: three diesels, and the TCT MultiAir petrol all sneak in under 120g/km.
- 1.6/105 104g = €190/yr (A3)
- 2.0/150 110g = €190/yr (A3)
- 2.0/175 TCT 116g = €200/yr (A4)
- 1.4/170 TCT 119g = €200/yr (A4)

If you fancy it:
- 1750QV TCT 169g/km = €570/yr (D)

The 2014 GQV hasn't been launched anywhere yet: It's getting the same aluminium-block engine and TCT gearbox as the 4C has, but with a Band D tax rating, it's not going to be offered here in Ireland, except to special order, but you'll be paying around €36k after Whispering Mickey's had his pound of flesh...

There's no manual QV anymore.

Don't get me wrong, I've no problem with anyone else spending their money on whatever they like, be it new cars, old cars or a fews weeks to never forget in Vegas.
Unfortunately for myself, ill always think what does that get me instead and would i be happier with it.
Even the idea of 36 k on an sz tells me well i could a lancia delta integrale 8v, an e34 m5 and bmw 850csi instead, which i might be more happier with....

Problem with that SZ is that it's not old enough for classic status, so you'll be paying VRT on it on top of your 36k. Grrrr

I'd expect a few registrations for May assuming the dealers get the MY14 Giuliettas in this month

I can't see June being much better with the 142 plate available in July, especially if the MY14 isn't available until July or later.

Talking to a Ford dealer recently, and he wasn't impressed with the second plate at all: said it has turned May and June into no-sales months. July, which used to be the worst month of the year, has picked up a bit, but the recent gains in sales have been January, not July. Maybe it's too early to tell yet, but it seems Irish people still want the "new car in the new year".

For Alfa, we'll see a few new registrations in July as the MY2014 dealer demonstrators are registered. With no test-drives until July, though, any new deliveries won't arrive until September at the earliest.

Incidentally, I noticed Dan Seamans (Cork Alfa) had the builders in at the weekend... looked like showroom renovations.

I was passing there today & all the signs are now up, they are still working on the showroom though.
