Meant to write up on this. It was a fantastic day. I was only able to attend the morning training session.
I got to Mondello around 9:15am and saw a Honda S2000 parked outside the main gate. Pulled in and was chatting with him for a few mins before heading in. We drove in and parked behind the pitlane- there were another two S2000s, a convertible BMW M3, BMW 318, Ford Escort MK II, MK 5 Golf GTI, Mitsubishi EVO V and a Celica RWD 2.0 Turbo. Nice mix and these were all here for the training session. There was tea and coffee there so we grabbed a cup and went into the training classroom. There was a lot of pointers given out, what to expect on full track days etc, and in general just prepping us before we went out on track. We hit the track for our first run at 10:30am.
For the first run we were split into two groups. We were all given walkie talkie radios so we could hear the chief training instructor talk to us as he guided us around the track in the Mondello MX-5. We took it nice and slow at the start and there were cones placed on the track for us so we got a feel of when the correct time of when to turn into the apex. Each lap on the start finish straight, the first car in the group behind the MX-5 would pull into the right and let all the other cars pass letting at least each car to have the lead. The pace built up and after 6 laps we headed back for a cup and another classroom session. This session was headed by the instructor and he was answer more technical questions such as importance of tire pressures, oversteer and understeer etc...Found that very useful and interesting. After that back out on track for another 6 laps, much quicker pace. We then got about 30 mins free track time, which was great. The 350z handled great despite its pudgyness! The alfa would have been great out there too.
The track is quite technical, and is very hard on brakes and tyres. We were doing the session in circa 23-26 degrees so it was hot. I had the aircon on, but at every application of full acceleration, the ECU switches the aircon off to keep the power output up!
For 50 quid you can't go wrong. Most of the people there were newbies to the track and there was a very friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Definitely recommended
