Called in to the dealership today on my way to lunch and was surprised to find that the TCT Giulietta is finally on sale in Ireland.

Diesel only, of course, but it's Band A3 (119g/km), so cheap to tax.

Giulietta TCT 2.0 JTDm2 diesel, 170CV Sportiva .... € 31 500 ex works

I'm waiting to hear back what exactly "Sportiva" trim means in Ireland. In the UK, it's actually pretty decent: leather seats (red or black), 18" wheels, sports suspension ( :( ), side-skirts. No steering-wheel paddles, though (they're a £260 option over there). Of course, the Irish cars could be different, but he did say they could now draw from UK stock, which suggests that they're the same spec...

In other news, it appears that the petrol models are no longer listed in the pricelist. You have a choice of 1.6l 105; 2.0l 140; 2.0l 170 with a 6-speed manual, or 2.0l 170 with TCT. All diesels.

I'd prefer a Lusso to the Sportivo and then spec up the bits I like. There's one particular road to my in-laws' house that won't get better any time soon, and I don't fancy driving it on hard shocks (have had enough of that!). Only the Sportivo trim was listed, but I don't think there'd be a problem if I needed to order something special.

I did drive this model on a test-drive in London, and I was impressed with the ride quality, but I think I want something "a lot" better on broken roads than the 147, and that means 16" or 17" wheels, not 18".

However, the car fund got spent on a kitchen (no complaints - I'm the cook), so it's going to be next year, I think. The 147 is holding out quite well, but at six and a half years it's starting to feel like an "old car" now.

The fact that the model is offered at all is the real news: the dealer reckons the TCT wasn't on the previous pricelist at all..
