NCT advice...

Guys a bit of advice.... Im due on Friday to check out a car and if all goes well Ill be bringing it back to Galway. Unfortunately its not an Alfa
Anyway here is my slight problem, the car I'm looking at has no NCT and the guy isnt listing when it expired (Its on Adverts.ie) I've emailed the NCT centre to see if they can help so just waiting for a reply. I would use a cartell check if I could but we had fraud on our account so our bank cards have been blocked and I'm still waiting for the new ones (that was the ****ing icing on the ****ing cake!) so I cant go down that route.
If anyone can help me find out when the NCT expired I will PM the number plate as for legal reasons I cant display it on the net. Many thanks and hope Im not sounding like an idiot

Go to boards.ie and e-mail the member called "Motorcheck" or "Motorcheck.ie" .. I'm pretty sure he'll be able to give you a date.

Ive asked through the PM function on adverts and he says hes not really sure, the guy is a foreigner so I would want to be 200% sure that the car hasnt been out of an NCT for a year or something.
Thats fantastic advice Rob... thanks a mill!!

******** you need to have 25 posts before you can send a private PM. Ill look like a right troll if I start randomly replying to threads, bit of a stupid system IMO

there used to be a post # generater topic on forums like this, where people just post "1" then "2", etc, until they can send PMs.

Whichever you would recommend. I've only ever done it once when I got the Alfa almost 4 years ago and at that time I got the full report, from what I remember it gave me the MOT history, recorded mileage, if finance was owing, if there were irregular car tax months etc

Ok guys WTF is this supposed to mean!

I looked through the report and although the number of owners is high it doesnt necessarily put me off, but I saw that the NCT expired in June 2012. The owner then scheduled it for 21st September. I went to the NCTS website and entered the cars details and it came back that it was a NO-SHOW. So they are saying that when this car comes back to the NCTS they will add €22 to the €55.
Does that mean that even if the car changes hands again the new owner needs to foot the extra €22??! Seems highly unfair

Actually doesnt matter, read up on boards.ie about it. Just in case no one knows this:

If the seller booked a test and failed to show up or cancel before the 5 working day timeline, and then sells the car to the new owner who then brings it to the NCT centre, needs to explain that as a new owner the fine automatically gets cancelled as they weren't the ones who did anything wrong basically.
Probably better to call customer services and advise them of this before proceeding with a re-test.
Hope it helps people

Good lad Kev.
AFAIK once you've a booking for NCT it covers you so to speak even if it's out of date.
If that makes sense?
(If Dermo can understand it anyone can!!!)

Thanks Rory. Tomorrow I'll know for certain if its the car for me. Although after being with the Alfa for soooo long the Volvo has a lot to live up to
Makes perfect sense re the NCT, was talking to the lad again and he was saying that the handbrake is loose so I know thats a defo fail and that the headlight washers are missing the wipers (if that makes sense) and so I guess it will fail on that too Hopefully the handbrake is easy enough to tighten and I've already thought of an excuse for the headlight wipers, I'm gonna say that the bumper was replaced and that it came like that....
