alfa gt 1.9jtd gear shift

hello everyone, looking for some advice, on the gt its really hard to shift gear to 1st and 2nd, the rest of them theres no problem, what is causing this sometimes goes in no bother but most times just doesnt want to go in.

would changing the gear box oil help?

thank you

Could be the linkage. Had to replace mine at one stage. I also had a similar problem recently - might have been with 3rd - simple fix, but can't recall what it was - got it sorted at a recent service.

Is the clutch gone heavy also? The clutch release bearing gives problems on theses (search for it on this forum, there is a good thread about how to oil up the bearing). It will be harder to find gears if you aren't pushing in the clutch enough!

I'd be inclined to try and rule out any issues with the gear shift (as I have found) before moving on the the clutch or the gearbox itself.

I think these are rods and like the V6 Alfa's they can seize up a bit.
