Project GTV - updates

Ok.. gave the new GTV a serious wax early last Sunday morning...(Mr Miyagi style, wax on wax off wax on wax off, if you're too young to understand this please don't ask).. She turned out pretty good.. very pleased with the paint work!

The car came with a silver passenger wing mirror as the original wing mirror (still in the boot btw ) had broken glass. I was going to get the silver one sprayed the correct colour, or fix up the original one with glass from ebay..

But then got thinking.....

What if both wing mirrors were chromed instead? A bit like the Ti spec mirrors on the 159's etc... what do you all think? Sexy or naff on a GTV in this colour? Chrome or the stock colour?

Was going to post this on the GTV tech section, but I know everyone here will be BRUTALLY honest... ...and of course I really value your options here.... and abuse.. all wholesome stuff....

Cathal, it's your car and you do what pleases you.

But!

You know the glass bit on the grey mirror, that just clips onto the movement motor, its a fiddly job but take the glass from the grey and snap it into the red one in your boot! It wont cost you a euro!

I'd leave it Proteo red.

Did you collect the 12v Spyder yet?

Thanks for that.. that's a nice cheap fix Why didn't that occur to me?? Having a thick moment today...

Tbh I'm guessing the motor in the original unit is toast too.. although transferring the guts (motor and cabling) across to the red one is do-able too.

Hi Pat.. sure did I collected the Spyder this morning over at Lee! Thank you so much! The small lad will be over the moon... It's great it qualifies for the low motor tax..

Rory, I've got camouflage netting over the cars to hide them from you know who...

Tell him to what her on the corners, her ass will step out & he'll end up doing do-nuts. Might want to rotate the tyres from front to back too

She's a typical Rosso red, badly faded, maybe some TLC will cure it

For now maybe, I'm betting it's just like the Band A & B cars they convinced everyone to buy a few years ago

They'll do the same to the electrics in the next few years as they did to those this year

I think the 'chrome' wing mirrors would look pretty cool. But be wary- you don't want the actual shiny chrome look.

The GT has plastic 'chrome' (called Satin I think) bits on the front grill and whiskers (lower lip) which really compliment the wing mirrors.

The front of yours doesn't have much of that silveryness as the GT so its possible the wing mirrors might stand out a bit. But I'd say go for it I think it would look good!

I don't think it would suit the car at all Cathal especially as it is a phase 1 and doesn't have silver/silver effect anywhere else to compliment it.

The mirrors are a piece if **** to swap over, even I was able to do it!!

Congrats on the over new motor as well!! You must have been very generous last week!!

Thanks Dermot for clearing up a few points.. yes senior moments are definitely creeping in more often..

Well thanks for all the comments lads.. original coloured mirrors is the way to go... As said above a phase 1 grilled with chrome wing mirrors would look a bit weird..

And I'll post a pict of the Spyder tomorrow.. its an automatic..

Goodnight....

My missus and your missus should get together Cathal, they'd convince eachother it was normal to collect alfas!

I like the sound of the satin chrome mirrors alfamj suggested but its alot of work just to find out it might look pants, colour coded is the way to go. nice looking motor btw
