New Import numbers

yesterday is seen a Ford Connect 05 D 120016 & I was a little confused until I remembered that as of Dec 1st 2011 there was new system of numbers that applies to ALL years of Imports, be they reg'd 'almost new' 12s, 11s,10s,09s, etc.......:

YY 'D' 12**** [ 120,000+ ]

Remaining counties will start at 11,000 others at 12,000 depending on Max sales in previous years

Already in Wexford there are registered 07 WX 11001 & 01 WX 11001

So have any of you spotted this new numbering system.

I know that KE used to have 00 KE 11*** so I guess they start at 12000

So all owners of Imported Alfa's after 01/11/11 will have this numbering format & will no longer just blend into the back ground

if it's because of the pressure of SIMI, then they shot in their own foot. most of us know from experience, that grey imports from the UK are better equipped, better maintained and generally in better condition (except the classic cars with ungalvanised body eaten away by the salt). Now these cars will be easier to spot and envy

I don't quite understand this thing about English cars being rust riddled because they salt the roads because isn't that exactly what we do as well? Also Ireland is much smaller so most cars are closer to the sea and hence would be more prone to rust.
Can someone explain this stigmatism to me please?

imho they have snow more frequently, especially in Scotland, and there is no guarantee that the car never left the home counties...

in the UK the roads are slated alot more than here in Ireland. Unless this salt is washed way when melted sticks to the cars body work espically in the hardest to reach areas. It eats away at the steel. Also where the salty water is constantly hitting the body work & brake pipe it eats away there too.

I've had seen several 156 [ ex-uk imports ] where i could put my fist thro the floor. 156s/147s are not as rust proof as people think they are.

Also this salty water gets onto bolts & exposed threads causing MAJOR head aches when working on suspsension & exhaust parts.

Its because they have been using salt ( substantial amounts) in the UK for many years compaired to over here. It seems to me that Irish cars will be worse than UK cars in the future , as we all know how many Irish people will power hose the underneath of their cars . As you can see from all the pristine waxed & polished cars on our roads ! That's the Reason GAV

Thanks I was just wondering but in fairness is sounds exactly like here especially these days, they have 3 years worth of salt stockpiled here!!

Yeah they have in the last few months BUT what happened in 2010? The stocks they now have will not be used or needed for another 10 years. You also mentioned about cars from 'sea-side' towns been prone to rust, imho air carried salt will only effect cars within the 1st mile from the coast. Its the concentrated salting of roads that kills cars

I'm often in Newcastle, i've seen them salting roads in autumn time on evenings when it dips to around 8 degrees. They do go OTT at times, prevention seems top priority, unlike over here.

8 degrees is a bit much TBH .. Dont tell them over here as they will do it here at 10 degrees ! to be sure to be sure !
