Rusty 156 bumper supports

I was under the car about 2-3 months back and spotted the bumper support type thing was in a bad way. I sprayed it down with hamerite and inside it as best I could.

There is a car not too far away with ones in better knick. Are they something that bolts on/off or are they welded? Pic attached.

will be doin me wishbones this weekend god willing, I'll have a poke about and report back. I'd say they're probably spot welded to the main chassis

I think they are welded they go in all of em really to be honest. But if your stuck for bits like that get onto Pat in Wexford he has literally everything you could need.

They are bolted in place. Not that difficult to remove, but messy. The o/s one mounts the p/steer pipes and will fail the nct if rusted badly. These are very similar to the same brackets found on Fiat Bravo/Brava/Marea/145/146/147 etc. The top end where it bolts to the car is a different shape, but the bottom end (the bit that rusts) is the same. I've usually either fitted new ones, or rivit good bottom ends to the existing top end.
Unfortunatly, at this stage, Alfas of this era are beginning to show signs of rust.

Thats good news Swarlb, I found a set that are not too bad which I can mount on my car. Mine are literally flaking and seem to be holding some items with nothing more than hopes and dreams.

These ones I can sand back and hamerite to death to make sure they last.
