Hi, I know this is a general question and is probably covered in another thread but I cant find it!

Im currently considering buying my first ***** (a 156) and noticed how cheap the cars are compared to other makes, which makes me wonder why?!! I have heard the usual stories about *****'s being unreliable etc but is that an outdated myth??

I will prob get a 2005 / 2006 156 - does anybody know what the tax / insurance would be like in ireland?

All comments appreciated - Thanks.

Remember it's Alfa not *****. Tax will only be determined on what size engine you buy along with the insurance really.

156's are brilliant... if you get one that has not been subjected to a typical Irish Full Sevice history. Tax will depend on engine cc.... Check www.motortax.ie

Insurance will depend on engine cc, your age and insurance history.

The unreliability myth is just.... em, a myth. An Alfa will not be forgiving if it's owner skips a service interval, unlike jap counterparts and german appliances.

Is there a car for sale online that you're interested in? Post a link here if you want opinions..

Btw, if you do decide to own one, you will not be dissapointed and you'll enjoy the perks of a very exclusive club.....

This thread may help in finding one

And as such Alfa's just need a bit more TLC than other marque's but you will never look back . An Alfa will always put a smile on your face

Alfa 156

Having come from a Honda family, I took the plunge for an unreliable Alfa. I believe it is a myth.

They need to be serviced on the button, small problems fixed as they crop up, and use a mechanic who knows them (like Gerry in Ti Autos - good value and is an Alfa specialist).

Check the oil once a fortnight, look for any leaks under the car once a month or so.

If you do this, it should be as reliable as any other car.

Buying a late model 156 is a good idea, any problems throughout the early years are generally ironed out in later models.

I had to explain the title of this thread in the browser history section on my phone....

Have to admit... it did look dodgy.
