2 questions!

Hello all,

I have two quick questions.

1) The heated seat on my 2001 147 has stopped working, i think something maybe wrong with the switch, as the passenger one still works. Not a big deal now with the weather but want to get it sorted as im selling the car soon. Is there something that commonly goes wrong with the heated seats, or do i just need a new switch?

2) As mentioned car will be for sale soon, and looking at a diesel GT Blackline. Are the diesel engines reliable? Have heard on other forums some horror stories about them when fitted in Vauxhalls but i know that engine is used everywhere so must be ok???

Thanks

dont know about the first question but re the 2nd I have never heard of any problems with them, its an excellent engne, I have been in a gt with the diesel, there is plenty of torque.
this might help Alfa Romeo GT Reviews - Carsurvey.org

If your considering a GT you might also want to have a look at this: Alfa Romeo GT Buyer's Guide

Lots of people swear by the diesel, 150bhp, lots of torque and very economical. On the car your looking at, check that the timing belt has been done at 60,000 miles (if it has even reached that far). If so, it is also very important that you check that the waterpump has been changed at this interval, as I have heard of them failing.

On the heated seats issue, unfortunately I can't help you on that!

its a bit of a toss up at the mo, torn between a sexy MINI Cooper S, a cracking GT Q2 or a Leon FR TDI. guess the test drive will sort it out!

thanks for the links

drove mini cooper but not the s. I really enjoyed it, was like a go kart, very tight but its not the type of car you could cruise or go on long trips in, have been in the diesel GT and its probably a better allrounder

Did the same when the missus was looking to trade in the mx5 but I hated it, it was just stupid and twee inside plus we got pulled over by the rousers because the idiot salesman didn't change the trade plates!

We've got an 8Valve 147 JTD only 115bhp and 5 gears but the engine is still going strong after 113k miles. Just make sure you do the oil and filter changes and it won't let you down. Just heed Alfamj's advice with the waterpump and you should be fine. Somone confirm the cambelt interval fon the 16V engine please, the 8V is 60,000miles

Well my mam has a Cooper and it's brilliant and I drove the S once and it was a hoot! But thanks to the near vertical windscreen anything over 120kph does get very noisy! Not good when the limit is 130 here!

Drove a GT diesel once as well and I remember being very impressed with how smooth and not diesel like it was

But I'll need to go for a spin in each again to decide!

Have you tried swapping the switches over to see if that is the problem ? If not it might be that the heating element has failed.

Heated seats switches are forever melting, very common fault. They don't act on the gate of a relay, the whole current for the heater passes through the switch, eventually they just melt.

Well remembered! I am from Cork boi, but Im living in Luxembourg. Speed limit is 130kph on the motorways, but its more of a suggestion here and not enforced.

Cool, thanks I will try swap the swtiches over at the weekend and see if that does anything. could be worse, they could be stuck in the on position!
