Airbag Light on in Meath

Hi Lads
I have a 05 1.8 156 Ti. Airbag light came on the other day... Pain in the ****. Was on for about a week and then I noticed it switched off while I was driving but came back on when I got to a roundabout. On and off a few times in the same drive, very odd. When I got home I disconnected the battery for an hour or two, cleaned up the terminals and reconnected. Now light is on all the time...

I am going the try and hunt around for a loose connecter under the seats but if it doesnt switch off, who do you recomend in Meath that can help.

I have a few little problems that I would atempt but if I cant get rid of the light I might as well leave it on to somebody and get the whole lot done as the NCT is up... since Feb...

List of stuff to do,
Aibag light
Blowing break light bulbs
No reverse lights - Connector under battery box?
Headlights need setting after bulb replacement.

If your gonna attempt anything with the airbag connectors, make sure u have the battery disconnected for a while first.
But the airbag light fault happens in every 156 I've seen its the flimsy wires under the seat, the little divils.
Yea the reverse sensor is under the battery alright. I had that problem on the old 156 too, it came back on if I applied Abit of force on the gearstick so it wasn't the sensor for me. Try that first before replacing.

Thanks for that Paddy.

this morning I disconnected the battery for an hour, had a look under the seats and reseated the connectors. Reconnected the battery turned on ignition and light came on, off, on as usual. I started it up and left it idle and the light sent out! Stayed off too.

Rear lights was a bad connection there too, new bulb wasnt blown at all.

Would have had a look at the reverse lights today but didnt have the time. A job for tomorrow.

Oh and has developed a nasty creak in the front suspension this week too.

Still love the car tho...

Yep, its the wishbones or droplinks, or arb bushes. It's hard to know for sure. They all have slightly different sounds.

Should he record the squeak and you diagnose it?

Certain parts creak, certain parts knock, some creak and knock if both the joint and bush is gone. ARB and it's links definitely knock, you'll feel it under your feet when driving. Lower woshbones appears like a constant creaking, they last longer than upper wishbones. Upper wishbones can go wrong with the joint (knocking over (speed) bumps), or the bushes can wear out. These last only around 30k miles in my experience.

You learn enough when you do the work yourself or assist the work bieng carried out.

As for airbags, connections I know of are... under drivers, under passengers, two in boot (curtain airbag connections) and supposedly the one going to steering wheel is also dodgy.

Some electrical spray works well, the ones under the seats need to be stripped and reterminated using standard terminal block.

Aibag light - done
Blowing break light bulbs - done
No reverse lights - Connector under battery box? - Turned out to be the switch, got one for a tenner, done
Headlights need setting after bulb replacement. Bulb wasn't in right, improved but still not right
Creak - is lower wishbone, went away afer spraying WD40, will have to wait till after NCT

And... The driverside handbreak cable just snapped twenty minutes ago...

Need a beer...

Local motor Factors had the two rear cables for 51euro so snapped them up this morning and went to a local guy with a ramp and got him to fit both cables for 50 euro. The two old cables were in bits, completely rusted.

All I have to do is the headlights before NCT on 19th. What a few days, my brother in law is convinced I bought a lemon but even driving home after getting the cables fitted, on the country roads is more fun than I would ever get from his Ford in a lifetime...

Rear drivers side window motor has crapped out now with window down. Swapped over the switches, no problem there. Checked all the fuses up behind the dash, all ok. Took the motor out of the regulator and stripped the door card off passenger side, connected the motor and no movement there. Looks like a motor is gone. I can move the window up and down by hand so the regulator isnt seized.

Getting to be a joke the amount of stuff gone wrong here...
