2011 Cultra Hillclimb Event - Saturday 4th June
Following the success of the 2010 Revival Event, this years' event will be of a largely similar format to 2010, with the hillclimb competition being complemented by demonstrations and displays of interesting cars and motorbikes which would not ordinarily participate in a Northern Ireland hillclimb event. Already lined up to make a return appearance is Drift Car competitor Andy Cooper. The new Museum Management have shown continued commitment to the event and in return ask for a more attractive “show” for its' visitors, celebrating motoring heritage and history.
The main theme for 2011 is a celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the introduction of the iconic E-Type Jaguar, in association with the Jaguar Drivers and Jaguar Enthusiasts Clubs who will provide a display of classic Jaguar sports cars.
We plan to celebrate the 80th Birthday of local racing car legend John Crossle with the appearance of his 51 year old Mk3 design that won its' debut race at Kirkistown in April 1960, driven by its' creator and this will be supported by a display of his cars from across the years.
Also on the programme will be a re-creation of the 1911 Cultra Hillclimb winning run of Mr.Charles Hurst in a Belfast-built Chambers motorcar, a month before launching his successful garage business. Our re-creation will be by the present-day Chambers family in their own "family car" that bears their name.
