Me and my 156

Well all, thought I would throw up a quick thread.

I've been driving Honda's for 11 years, but always wanted an Alfa. My Dad worked for Alfa in the 80's and as a kid, they were the coolest cars on the road. Loved the 156 when it came out and I still do.

I needed a cheap car to do a 2 mile commute and was on the lookout for a Honda 'shed'. Instead, I followed my heart and finally bought my first proper Alfa. 2000 reg, base model 1.6, 80k on the clock, NCT'd for 18 months and purchased for €1.5k. As you can see from the first photo, its not exactly a head turner.

Since then, I've un-sheded it and thrown money down the toilet, but the car drives and looks great!

Suspension:2 Upper Wishbones
2 Lower Wishbones
4 Drop Links
2 Rear Radius Arms
Front Anti Roll Bar

Mechanics:Timing Belt
Oil & Filter
Air Filter (once I figure those snapped bolts out)
8 Genuine Alfa Spark Plugs
Car was bought without service history, but found it.... in the glove box! Not complete, but its had a clutch, TB 20k miles previous and a water pump, so not too bad
Front & Rear Discs & Pads (Ferodo)

Looks wise its had:Teledials with 4 new Bridgestone Turanza tyres
Lowered 30mm
De-badged
New Front & Rear Alfa badges
Clear side indicators
Wood Steering Wheel & Dash
Flat Wipers
Chrome tail pipe finisher

MISC:Uprated bulbs
Ipod headunit
Inifinity Front speakers
New remote battery and button (works now!)
Dents removed

Still on the list to fit are the air filter, TAN LEATHER and thats about it. Want to get the tracking done, wouldnt mind finding a DS wing in the same colour (little bit of rust and a ding) and then its pretty much done.

Absolutely love driving the thing. Handles great and makes me smile. Not the pokiest, but i dont drive it near enough to get use out of a bigger engine.

I should mention, the car didnt really need all that suspension work, I just wanted it all out of the way and done, rather than fixing one item every 5k miles.

Very nice!! Good to see you putting all that work into it. Its worth it all in the end isn't it?

The combination of the chrome exhaust, lowering and teledials make it look the biz. The tan leather will also be class when its fitted.

My old man has a 159 in a very similiar colour to that body, I have to say I really like that shade.

That is one clean looking car.. Lots of love gone into her

It's brilliant to see a car 'brought back' from the brink... congrats on your car and looking forward to seeing her in the metal at some stage.

Nice job. Sideskirts and colour code the rub strips on the front bumper and you have a minter.

Wheeler Dealers! LMAO! It did come back from the brink alright. It was a cheap NCT failure car, a mechanic bought it, threw in a new cat and one or two items and got it through the NCT. I've taken it to the next level! Hopefully there is another few years in it left.

Nah, those photos are in Tuning Factory. Im mates with one of the owners and used to help set up the racing cars for them.

Am keeping an eye out for a donor car alright. Not looking to spend huge money on it now. It already stands me Ä3k! I doubt I would get half that if I sold now. So Im in it for a while. Worse places to be though

I told you it's CDO, you have to have those letters in alphabetical order, otherwise it's just wrong... so wrong...

Do you reckon the battery went flat because he had to move the electric seat so far forward?

Tan leather interior starting to go in now.

Not having much luck cleaning it though. black grime engrained into the leather is not shifting much.
