Is this normal for an Alfa owner!

I was at a set of traffic lights in Ranelagh Dublin 6 about 8:15 this evening. Was driving over after work to get some groceries (yes I drive to a further away shopping centre just so I can drive her a bit longer )

So I was stopped at the lights in the lane turning left. Immediately to my right was an older man out for an evening cycle on his bicycle, also stopped at the lights. I see him looking at the front of my car oddly, then looking back. Then I noticed him look at me saying something. I had the window up so didn't hear initially- I thought he was pointing out a had a flat tyre or something- so I rolled down my window and the well spoken gentlemen was only trying to tell me how much a beautiful car I had- "thats a lovely job" he said.

I was a bit surprise, I never expected people would comment on the car like that! It did put a smile on my face though!

Was washing the car at the weekend, and some 'aul fella was walking past and got into a little chat with me. Even though he didn't know what car it was, he praised it .. He said next time he was going to the nursing home he'd tell the nurses he bought an Alfie Rome

Hilarious mysterio!! I was actually getting my car washed in Rathmines on Saturday morning- just the basic wash and he even waxed up a bit without any extra charge Id recommend the place. Even that guy was talking to me about the car for ages after he'd finished cleaning it.

Alfa's for some reason get people talking to you randomly about them. I have had people say it to me in the old 146 as it was completely different to anything else that was out there at the time.

To be honest I think it's a regular occurrence for Alfa Owners. Even at the mini meet in Bray we had a few weeks ago we had people talking and commenting about them as they walked past.

When I was shopping for my alfa, all my friends were suggesting me to find a Corolla or Nissan Cefiro. Now they get it. One friend had signed off his soul on a new Corolla 1.8 and spent his days polishing it. Since I bought my alfa at half the price for his car, he stopped washing his car.

On holiday, a French tourist spotted me at a gas station and he was euphoric, like a teenager girl at a Justin Bieber concert, taking pictures of my 156 - which was covered in orange mud.

No it was Jelly and you were caked in it too. Go on admit it.

I picked up my Uncle from the train on Monday night. He lives in London and the us. When we got up the road a little he asked what it was and said 'This is what I want in a car. I'll have to get one'. I was well chuffed.

It is true though that people will talk to people who drive Alfas. Its like you said hello to them just by the car you drive and they respond to it.

..sounds sad, but the odd time somebody would nod and say "nice alfa" as they passed in a petrol station would make my day with the 164. I suppose it's been a struggle with that car, and from time to time you feel you're just a nut with an old fiat, so when somebody notices the car it kind of gives you the will to keep going

Yes you are a nut but who cares?
The 164 has been credited with saving Alfa-that's our story and we're sticking to it...

I have no qualms about the 33s reliability. It goes everywhere on full song and just gives me a gentle reminder every now and again that its getting on a little and needs some loving

OK, maybe maintenance would have been a better choice of words.

Got one of those reminders today. You should have seen the bits that had to be replaced they were like the little rubber grips you put onto a pen, 2 of them, €32 Alfa charge for the parts!
