New Guy

hey all,

just found the site and im delighted i did.

names Ruairi, live in dublin.
currently a student in IT Blanch though im not a student age. little older. LOL

im sory to say i dont have an Alfa at the mo, thought i am a hugh alfa fan and allways had them in the family.
so far in the family. 146 - 156 - 147 - 146
next on the block will be a new Giulietta for my dad, and im going to be looking for a new toy later in the year too. really hoping to get a 156 GTA, thought the prospect of 1600 a year in tax isnt that nice. its actualy allways been italian canrs in the house. if not Alfa then fiat's. my first car was actualy a fiat (punto) so was my dads (127)

i use to have one of the 146's myself. 1.6 ti. loved it, spent a small fortune getting it back road worthy ... bit of a heap when i got it.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...0146/alfa2.jpg
and then one day on the way home from a mates house in the mid-lands a guy ran into the back of me at about 70
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2.../alfacrash.jpg
didnt even have it on the road that long. was totaly gutted as well as physicaly hurt.

so next im hoping for that GTA, but im gonna have to wait and see. dont have an Alfa at the mo. driving a Jap (Toyota Levin) love it and all but its not the same.

anyway just posting here to say hi.
and hi to Damien C ( from another site )

actualy can anyone tell me did they do a face lift 156 in the GTA?? or how similar are the chassies to do a transplant ??(bumper, grills ... etc )

Welcome along man that was some mint 146

On the 156 they've started doing the facelift interior at the end of 2002 start of 2003 and in 2004 the proper facelifts were introduced. The GTA's were produced in 2002 + 2003 only (AFAIK) so they are only available with the old bumpers + facelift interior.

Think someone on here was selling a standard GTA a while back. Miro red iirc.

thanks man. like i said i put a bit of work into it before the crash.
cost me about 2600 which was about half the going rate at the time. then ended up putting another 3k into it.
new driver side head lamp
new sump (onld on was cracked)
new anti roll bar
new rear passo swing arm
front driver side alloy repair (cracked and kept going flat)
full wheel ballancing
windscreen repaired (or replaced cant remember)
new mid section exhaust
new washer pump and hoses
new variator
full service
AFM
O2 Sensor (times 2, first one was faulty but i fitted it so i was at fault)

and a few other bits

saved alot of cash by doing most the work myself.

the car its self was
lowered on apex springs (standard shocks)
16inch pepper pots with 205-45-16 goodyear eagles
laser exhaust + decat
K&N induction kit
Momo front tower brace
Momo course steering wheel, peddels, gear knob and hand brake handle
then FULL vallet inc full body buff to try and get rid of the pink. (about €150 in total)

it was actualy the fact it was lowered that cracked the sump, went over a speed ramp too fast. BANG

that was my first real car, before that was the punto. you can imagin how gutted i was the day after.
but the guy bought it from me so i got all my money back, and from what i herd it was put back on the road. he had it racked to pull it back into shape. so if anyone sees it for sale or anything. stay clear. its not worth it.

thanks for the offers guys for getting one. but i got to finish college first and get a job before i can get one. :9
and i have a good mate of mine in the motor bizz that said he has one for me if i want it. but thats a few months away yet.

funny old impact that, looks like the roof went. take a brave man to pull that out! shame looked a lovely example. the 146 is a car I wish I had owned, as I had a sud, a series1 33, a series 2 33, and now the 147. The 146 is the only one missing from the ickle alfa list

welcomes

Welcome along fella, that was some knock you got in the 146! I was talking to a fella in work who gas one if the Levins and I was so surprised to hear that it had 180 odd horsepower!

There is a fella on here that performed a facelift on a GTA with amazing results, the thread should be in the motoring images lounge

BZR ??

they have the toyota 20 valve blacktop 4age engine... same engine thats in the newer Lotus Exiege

they made about 175 from factory on jap fuel, but yeah more like 160 on our stuff, maybe 165 on the old maxol juice.

thats one thing the japs are greate at, getting big power from smaller engines. but they can be so boring to drive, and the levin is very thin.

@ Dermo - 70 ?? not that bad. about half that

i guess a little more about me then...

im 30 (or will be soon) worked in sales then building sites up till i ended up back in college 5 years ago, and im so looking forward to getting out of there now. final year of a Computer Science degree. then i have the fun of looking for work....

i was looking at other 156's, and i see that there is a 2.5 V6 ... whats that one? is it like a GT or something? that could be more feisable to tax, isurance isnt a problem.
there much difference beween them ?

BZR is the one alright The really bad thing about the Jap cars is some of the people that drive them unfortunately especially the ones that are Starlets with Glanza plastered all over them and a dustbin for an exhaust!

Engines on the 156 are as follows 1.6, 1.8, 2.0 , 2.5 V6 and the best of the bunch 3.2 (GTA) . very hard to find a good V6 2.5 as one of our member's found out recently , alot of them in the UK, but rust is a big problem with them . The V6 Alfa is one of the best to hear and drive . But then again I am biased

I'm thinking of a 2.0 or 2.5 166 now. and i think i found the wheels i want for it.
Momo FXL-One

i guess i should stop teasing myself and wait till i have a job and some cash flow. lol

@ Dermo ... dont forget the 3.5 and 3.7 and i think i remember hearing of a 4.2 aswell, dont remember.

Never a 4.2 version of that engine the only 4l V6 engine I have seen was a race one in SA.
