156 foibles, or something wrong?

Howdy all, just took delivery of my first Alfa , After 11 years Driving Honda's, i wanted a cheap car, but with soul.

Its a 2000 156 1.6 base spec and I love it. Im trying to get to grips with the car and get it sorted. Im a bit anal about things and want it right.

Wipers, they are bloody noisy, not the blades, but the motor, I havent heard one as loud since my Grandad's mid 80's Renault 5. Is it supposed to be loud?

Fan Speed knob is v stiff, normal? Or needs a bit of spray silicone?

Original Blaupunkt radio needs to be turned on and off manually?

Thanks all,

Firstly hello and welcome to AO

Wipers: Mine are the same, and was looking on here through a couple of threads and it seems that the wiper motor is of low quality.

Fan knob: Not sure about this.

Cd player: I've got a Blaupunkt as well, and it turns on when I start the engine and off when I turn off the engine, so your problem might be from the wiring.

Wiper motor is standard issue on them. You can't really hear it on the later cars for some reason. The stereo just needs to be wired to the ignition simple fix.

How does the car rev while in gear acceleration? Becuase if it is slow, I would get your timing checked out.

re the wiper motor you can open these up and inspect for dirt as it can get clogged in there

its only ever a foible, nothing is ever truly wrong with an alfa
and re the wipers I'm sure I read somewhere that the armiture between the wiper and motor can give trouble.
Could be wrong mind, I'm no expert. saw the pic on octane, congrats!

That was a brief experiment with an Alfa 164 that I bought on Ebay, had delievered to a friend in the UK and sold back on ebay again! I never drove the thing!

Cheers for the replies lads. Started into a few jobs at the weekend and she is looking better already, the wheels really bring it down though.
