My 147 is cursed

Less than a week since I got my car back from the garage after a new clutch and recon gearbox 1100 euro lighter, I discover that the power steering is leaking. Now it's not a huge leak just a few drips, I rang up a garage who said it might need a new steering rack - WTF! A new rack for a small leak. They won't know till they check it out. How much am I looking at for a new steering rack.

Awe man.....that sucks. Call me cynical if you want, but if my car came back from a garage and the leak was in the area that they were removing and installing heavy new parts, I might be pointing the finger at the garage. Plus, for a garage to go from a small leak to a whole new rack being required sounds very suspicious!

But that's just me.......

Also, have a look at this thread, may be of some use.

Yes I thought so to, however I think the leak was there before i left it in with them I can't say for sure though. This was a different garage I rang. I'll just let these check it out and see then. Thanks for the link btw. Wouldnt be able to do it myself as I don't have the tools or space.

Atlas? never heard of them, Donohoes are an Alfa and Fiat garage and have been for years, re the leak it might just be the pipe, my brake fluid pipe was leaking in my old 155 and it was a really quick and easy fix so fingers crossed its nothing serious. Have you traced the leak yourself or just seen drips on the ground?

From what I can work from drips on ground it seems to be coming from around the fluid container. I'm hoping it's just a perished pipe. It's not a major leak, yet!

in all fairness shouldnt be much worse than that and that cant be expensive for a pipe or reservoir, anyay Gerry will find out. Let us know how you get on.

Gerry checked it over, turns out it needs new hoses which he has ordered so should be fixed by Friday - 250 total I suppose it's better then a new steering rack
