147 slave cylinder?

Last night my clutch pedal suddenly lost all pressure and went straight to the floor. Couldnt change gear and was stuck at traffic lights. It doesn't seem to be the clutch though because I had to get my neighbour to drive it back home. He is a mechanic and said its probably the slave cylinder that has gone. Just a couple of questions then, is the slave cylinder inside the clutch like some threads on here suggest and is it a cheap enough fix, oh and where do you suggest I bring it to get fixed in the Dublin area. This has to be the last problem for my 147 hopefully

Thanks in advance

The slave cylinder is inside the clutch; it's a gearbox out job to replace it.

Just been told by same neighbour that it's a hydrolic release valve that has broken and probably also contaminated the clutch and needs replacing also. would this sound right to anybody. Is this valve the slave cylinder.

same happened to me recently but turned out to be the slave cylinder seal had worn away and cracked, was a quick and cheap enough job. Ti Autos is where I brought it as always. Whereabouts are you, I might be able to recommend somebody closeby as it sounds like your car isnt moving far

No it's not going anywhere in a hurry. I live in Tallaght and was told that bohernabreena motors are not bad. And I still have the 4th gear issue that still needs to be fixed. Gerry is reluctant to remove gearboxes lately, so I suppose these are my best choice. What do you think?

am in tallaght myself, bohernabreena hav a gud rep they specialise in gearbox repaires however i would recommend you ring a chap called Don Baker who is an alfa specialist himself, he did some work on my 155 and is a true alfanut. He works out of a garage close to the greenhills road

hi ciaran how did you get on with bohernabreena? I have gearbox problems and might need to get the synchro mesh sorted. One other thing the clutch slave is outside the gearbox, I've replaced it on the 155 myself so it shouldnt need the box removed

Turns out its more than just a quick fix for gearbox and needs an over haul. So they are just going to replace it along with clutch,(cheaper) as slave cylinder has leaked onto clutch. Wait for it ... 1150euro... Have you picked yourself up off the floor yet I've actually gone with it as other garages were quoting anything upto 1500euro. Both come with 30k warranty. Booked in for Monday. I'll let you know how I get on. I'm seriously thinking about selling it when I get it back.

Right, got car back today. Everything running smoothly again, great service I would go back to them again if I had to. Just need to get it serviced now - a TI auto job I think
