Alfa parts Clare/Galway

Hi all,

I'm currently over on the west coast for xmas (the Gort area) and developed a problem with my 147. The bearing in the fan belt idler pulley is shot and needs to be replaced - the problem is I'm supposed to be sailing back to England tomorrow so I'm desperately trying to get hold of the part. The mechanic i've just seen said it will not hold the 500 mile journey back to London. Can anyone please recommend a parts supplier in the Clare/Galway area who might be able to help at short notice?

Kind regards.
Dave

Thanks for your reply Damien. I've got a local mechanic lined up to do the work who is a friend of the family - the big problem is being able to get hold of the part in time so that I can make the ferry tomorrow evening. I was hoping that someone on this forum could point me in the right direction.

Very kind of you buddy - will try a couple of numbers in Galway first and then let you know. Hopefully I'll be able to get hold of the part locally - but will know more in the morning.

If you dont get an idler then remove the damaged one alltogether and just fit the belt for the car WITHOUT aircon,if you give me your chassis number in a PM then first thing in the morning i will PM you back with the part number for the sorter belt which you can get at any motorfactors there.
That way you can have a fully functioning car minus the aircon to get you back home.
Simple.

Perhaps silly question but how do I found out the part number? The idler pulley is tucked away so not easy to see. It's the 1.6 TS I have (03 plate), so something like the following:

Alfa Romeo 147 Auxillary tensioner/idlers

Thanks for this David. Will give them a buzz first thing - not too far away either.

Patch-up done. Idler pulley removed; short belt put on... All seems to be fine. Fingers crossed now for the journey.

Thanks to everyone who responded. If anyone is ever stuck between Clare and Galway, Enda O'Leary is yer man. Not an Alfa specialist but a very clued up guy - and agreed entirely with Alfa Tuner's advice.
