Oil Quality

Afternoon all,

I have a question about oil! since there are no halfords/motor factors that i can find out here to get bits and bobs, LIDL is where i got for cleaning bits. anyway they have 10w 40 semi oil 4 or 5L for 14.99. My question tho, is it any good or any I just being a brand snob? I did a google search for it and it meets BMW, Merc and some VW standards as well as being supplied by the manufacturer of GM OEM oil.

is it ok to use? or should the hunt for oil go on?

In fairness its probably ok, whats the brand name? I find there is a bit of oil brand snobbery out there. As with many consumer products one producer packages the stuff for different brands. You can always change the oil after a few months if your not happy, at €15 its the cheapest 5l of oil I have ever seen.

If it meets API SL/SM and ACEA A3 it will be fine.

Euro car parts sell 5 litres of Carlube semi synthetic for £14.99 though and delivery is free.

That also meets the correct specs.

lol not its not for the Coupe its for the alfa. only reason im getting it is it needs to be topped up, its due a serive in 2.5k kilometers but i dont wanna leave it dip too low, and it'll be changed soon anyway.

according to the back of the oil it meets:

API SL/CF
ACEA A3/B3
MB 229.1
VW 505 00
BMW Special VW 501 01

so its ok?
