Embedding pictures

OK, I'm really tearing my hair out here - I've looked up the 'how to' section, I've read the exact same problem rikd had with the last meet and I still can't get the img tags ( [img]URL[/img] with no spaces...) to work with Flikr and give me full sized pictures rather than the small ones you get if you just do a straight attachment. And actually it doesn't even seem to recognise the attachment if I use the attachments button and put the Flikr link in there...

Can someone offer up some step-by-step for a fool type instructions specifically for Flikr. I've being copying and pasting the link from the "share this" drop down. The pictures uploaded were < 100kb...

Thanks,
T

The img tags are only enabled in the Images section of the forum. Elsewhere you will have to attach them or post the link.

And regarding to post in the images section, it should be a little like this.

[.img]http://Direct-link-to-the-picture[./img] without the dots in the img tags.

Embedding images is only allowed in certain lounges.
In the Images lounge https://www.alfaowner.com/Forum/meets-and-events-images/
1. Click "New Thread"
2. Type whatever you want
3. To embed the images click on the yellow icon with what looks like a mountain and a sun/moon in it.
4. It will prompt you for the url
5. Paste the url of the image (this can be obtained by right clicking the image selection "copy image location")
6. Click "Ok" this will automatically create the tags with the url inside it. It should look something like this:
[IMG]www.yourimage.com/yourcar.jpeg[/IMG]
7. Click "Preview" to view your post, and see if it worked

Note: Same can be done if just replying to a post by clicking "Go Advanced" to the right of "Post Quick Reply"

Hope this helps.

Why don't people use Photobucket or Imageshack ? They`re miles easier than Flickr.

I do much prefer picasa myself, way better, organises your pics on your computer for you as well and now has face recognition....

Just been doing some testing using my Flickr account & neither code works properly in the Image Lounge, it appears that Flickr don't provide a correct format link that works on Message Boards Time to start a Photobucket account I'd say Tim, it seems a lot more user friendly than Flickr or Picasa

PS they don't need to be less than 100kb either, my pics hosted on Photobucket from Killarney are bigger than 100kb

Ahh bugger that anyway. Just uploaded 200 pictures to Flikr...

Guess I'll have to just choose the pictures I want to post and open a Picassa or PBucket account and re-upload the pix to there...

Thanks for the help lads anyway - hopefully I'll get it sorted. 5 page road trip essay to go up over the weekend

In Photobucket it's easy to upload. Just create an album, and then click on the upload button, and hold CTRL to select multiple images.

I use photobucket. It couldn't be easier to upload 1 or 100 images. Easy to tag them, file them and name them.
All the links are easy to use and apart from a few too many ads on the screen, its all very intuative.

Picasa is actually quite easy...
I was just using the wrong link
When you look at a pic in picasa there are 2 options on the right for "link to this photo". One is a link, the other is "Embed image"
I was trying to use the first - but what is needed is the second with the option for "Image Only" enabled.

I like picasa because
a) the desktop software works extremely well, organising albums, tweaking pics, etc.. and syncs with the web albums very easily (just select album and upload).
and
b) cos I can do exactly the same from my phone - making it doubly easy

Too much mouse clicking for my liking...
I use keyboard more and know the IMG bbcode - but the right click for "image location" is an excellent tip as it matches the size AO limits to...
