Irish Alfa Club

I was thinking after seeing all the Alfa's that were at Mondello, this site is great for us Alfa owners that are on the Internet but there must be loads of other Alfa owners around the country who just dont bother with forum's and computers. Would it be an idea to try and set up an Irish Alfa Owners Club with a register of the owners and their cars, maybe a small website with a link to this forum.

There was a dedicated Alfa Ireland website for a while but it stopped running when the original creator couldn't find anyone to take over from him.

I'd certainly join an Irish club.

Perhaps it would be better to try & grow the community here other than divide Irish Alfa owners even more by creating another site

Why not request some free Flyers from AO to put on Alfa cars you see parked up & promote AO
https://www.alfaowner.com/Forum/annou...-leaflets.html
I've a good few cars tagged over the last few years

Just a thought but if they don't already bother with computers why would they look at a newly setup website anyway

There was an alfaireland.ie site a few years back but it closed down, it was very quiet anyway. Most people are either on here or on octane.

There are actually 100s of Irish Alfa owners on AO it's just that most only seem to use the site for the tech help & don't really bother getting involved with the rest of the site or the meets.

Just my opinions

ouch - that smarts.
alfaireland.ie once existed - was a pity it died, but if I remember rightly a large part of it was lack of participation (and he sold his alfa)

However, I do think it a good idea.. Should be possible to register your car, it's details and your details.
A small website still costs though, and no matter what you need to invest time and effort. Anyone thinking of doing it needs to commit to it though, otherwise it'll go the way of alfaireland.ie

To help that person out, here's some thoughts
- provide a blogging are for users to post up their latest alfa exploits
- car registration and search (users provide details of make, model, reg, etc - search just results in the ability to PM previous owners - no contact details to be shared).
- events calendar for meets, or other alfa/motoring related stuff in Ireland.
- hooks to this forum as THE forum (don't try and replicate)
- Picture gallery
- Resources such as links to alfa-specialists, etc.

I can help out whoever sets it up - just can't take on another website at this time.

I wouldn't mind putting in some work on this but I was thinking, of the 70 odd Alfas that were in Mondello how many know we have a meet in Killarney next month and how many would come along if they knew. The fact that we organise the meets through this forum only the people on here know whats on. If we had a register of members with contact details then we could text all members when we have a meet. I suppose Mondello was an ideal event to gauge interest in this.

Sounds like a good idea but with Ireland being the size it is would an Italian owner club be better as the Italian club here is only interested in high end cars and not active at all

Lads, we have all that and more on here, plus all the tech lounges etc, there is way more knowledge on here than we will ever be able to impart as an Irish site.
If we want a register of the Alfa Owners we simply set up a Irish Alfa Owners Register thread similar to numerous ones that are on this site like the GTV Cup register that I regularly keep up to date The Cup List.
What we need to do is try and promote the site a bit more be it by flyering cars, or promoting the meets and events a bit more.

Great ideas. I think you should have the honour of starting the owners register idea (assuming you are willing to update it)

Honestly I was asked to take over the Irish site but I declined because I already have my commitments here. And to be honest I dunno what benefit it would be other than it just being in cyberspace and have a .ie domain. This site I know it has it's niggles that wind me up but it is the best for every aspect of Alfa owning imo a massive technical and knowelable crowd here with some great people and opportunities to go to massive and I mean massive meets in England and get preference to be attendees on the displays of the shows etc.

To name but a few such as NAD, Auto Italia in brooklyns etc. I don't see the benefit as Dave said there are more than a 100 Irish Alfa owners on here. But for some reason prefer not to participate in the meets or forum side of things. But to be honest it's great to have a few new faces on here such as Franko and Cherb and by the sounds of it we have people that will be dedicated to the cause. Like all of the old heads and to be honest great friends and people I have met on here.

And this part of the forum is like it's own mini fourm imo. We can chat about everything here and ask for help on technical things and pass on info etc. Honestly I don't see the point in paying for a domain name when this site will pop up first on Google or any other search engine out there and the only other big Alfa site is the American AlfaBB site and that to be honest is only for 164's and spiders that they have over there.

I think what we are doing is good at the moment more and more people seem to be joining up. But yes there is always more we can do to promote it more. We have stickers and flyers. But to be honest judge the car before you flyer or sticker it as if it's a ball of scrape I don't think they will be bothered joining up the site.

Exactly. Seen a few 156's around that are just crying for help. Their owners don't deserve to own them.

I asked for flyers too. I think I'm the only one from Derry and EauRouge is a (part-time ) Coleraine man so we could be doing with a few more members up here.
