We sell good used 2.0 Twin Spark engines with a cam belt kit fitted properly and new balance shaft belt for £600 inc VAT, shipping to southern Ireland is about £100

All the best

Kieran-I e-mailed this guy asking what size engine was in this 156 but he never got back to me

alfa romeo 156 breaking for sale in Westmeath: €0 - DoneDeal.ie

Chances are slim that it would be a 2.0, but worth asking I guess.

I have two heads to lift off to see how bad the valves are, if it appears only light contact was made do you think the bottom end would be ok? If I redo one of the engines I will attempt to sell the car on but I dont want the bottom end to fail a few months down the road.

there is a FL on ebay, very cheap. I thought I suggest Dermo to have a look, buth then I was told on the 166 forum that after a top end rebuild and no word on the bottom end it's a risk, and nobody would buy it even for that amount of money. So I think you're right (and honest) to get the bottom end checked out, also you might have trouble selling it without getting that fixed/checked too.

Having replaced many heads for bent valves on Alfas I have never seen a bottom end failure afterwards and some of those cars I still see on a regular basis driving around

Its funny you should say that, a mechanic I was talking to told me he has done several twin spark cam belt failures and none of them had any problems after. Where did this imminent bottom end failure after bent valves story come from and is there any truth in it?

it was mentioned in the 166 topic, where a car had a cambelt failure, and people were put off by the fact that the bottom end wasn't mentioned. here is the post: https://www.alfaowner.com/Forum/alfa-...ml#post3246496

Well, if you read through my 155 thread, you will see that it tells the story of a 2.0 engine that had the top end rebuilt after bent valves and yet there is now a 1.8 in the car. So, I can only assume that the 2.0 engine subsequently failed, can't say why for sure, but the bottom end issue would be my best guess.

P.S. Drop Twiggmeister a PM about a 2.0 TS, he may have one that suits.
