Alfaowner Ireland Project Car

Ok, following on from some late night chat between myself, Mark (155TS) and GTV Gav, I thought I'd start a thread on gauging interest on a few of us going together to buy an Alfa that needs work and doing (attempting) the work ourselves.

I reckon the biggest problem will be getting suitable and affordable storage in a location that suits.

Anyone can enter, but we should probably set a limit on the amount of numbers as if we have too many, it could get messy.

Whatever location we have should be convenient for anyone who is involved-within an hour of work or home I'd say.

As far as I am concerned, there is no timeframe for this-I would be surprised if we even have a car bought for this in 2010.

Anyway, post here if interested, or if you have any advice or thoughts!

For anyone who was at the RR Day today, here is some inspiration

http://www.octane.ie/forum/showthread.php?t=20345

This was the GTV V6 that was there today.

Cowboys Ted, they're a bunch of cowboys!

Hi Ciarán,
I'm looking into storage at the mo so if I can get something sorted there thats worth it well then I'd be up for a shared ownership.

Nice one Mark. Reckon the storage needs to be the first thing sorted. Seemed to be a few places that cars were being worked on/restored in the business park where we had the RR day. Might get in touch with the guy and see if he knows of anything.

Hi guys,
I have recently got an Alfa 33, 1991, 1.7L 16V. One of the timing belt went a few years ago and it ran for a couple of mins after. Beautiful condition otherwise, new clutch and reupholstered inside. Very little rust. In the process of moving the car from Bandon to Midleton where I live. My aim is to do this up over the next 24months(3 young kids) but if anyone down in Cork wants to co own a 33 then let me know.

Lads I'd be happy to have a look at it for ye, (any excuse to have a look at anything Alfa) I used to have a lot of boxer parts 4 or 5 engines, I gave them to a lad here in Buttevant who had a Sud, I wonder has he still got them, if anyone's interested I'll try and meet him.

Friend of mine in Cork has a Sud for sale. Its an Irish car he's had indoors for years, plus a load of spares he's collected. He's restored other cars but never got around to the Sud. Could be interesting, I can pass on his details if you wish.

Sounds interesting alright Kevin. Do you know of anywhere that we could keep and work on such a car? Would it be worth asking on Octane?

yup - it's a boxer engine, 2 timing belts and a stunner of a car. Storage is a problem with me and my plan was to store it in a farm shed, drop the engine and get that sorted before I start working on the four corners(lots of perisables) Condition of the car is very good and it was always well looked after. Will post pics tonight.

alfa romeo spider for sale in Cork: €2,200 - DoneDeal.ie

Also, I have been made aware of a car that was bought as a project but the guy who bought it has changed his mind. Anyone who is interested, send me a PM with your e-mail address and I'll send you pics. It's something I think we should consider....

Definitely want in on this Mark. I think a Sud would be ideal.

guys if you do end up going for a sud give me a heads up.

I cant go in on ownership etc at the moment, the wedding savings are taking up all the spare cash, but ive loads of leftover pieces for the boxer engines and a good 1.7 16v engine complete (with ecu) etc that might come in handy if you want to go that route. Ive most of the workshop manuals too So i'd be able to help on that front.

Ive a feeling I'm gonna be very very jealous of your project
