How much for timing belt service on 166?

Evening all

I'm currently looking around getting quotes for a 83K service on a 166. My intention is to sell the car after so I want it done well. I have rung Gerry, Alasta, some friends who have done some before, some other experienced mechanics and garages in the north. I'm getting prices ranging form 500 to 900 for all belts & tensioners, water pump and variator (there's differences in parts prices too). Anybody have one done recently who could recommend somewhere?

500 is a very good price imo if it does include the variator and water pump too.
Very important to get a good job done though, as saving a few pence now could cost a few quid later.

If you've got a friend who's done it before (and their own one is still running ) then why not do it with them and learn from them.
Cam locks are essential.

Any pics, maybe someone on here would buy it as it is and do the work themselves or get it done?

I'll have a look for the some photos I took awhile back, but the thing is filthy in them, may not be a proper representation. It's an 01 TS in black with cloth interior with a couple of scuffs on rear bumper and a few scratches around and plenty of receipts.

Ok, dirty pics. Even have pics of receipts from Victor Motors and Alasta for some reason. Two brand new tyres too

Scuff marks visible on bumper here, same on other side

So otherwise. She has one year's NCT and passed it after fixing some bulbs, including that nasty rear lights problem that happens so often.

So there you go, feel free to comment.

Thanks for the offer Redx but I really just want to shift it. I have another project I'm trying to sort and don't have time to spend on the Alfa. I'll be washing her on Fri probably so will post better photos.

Is there actually a genuine chance of selling it without the service because the service is gonna cost me money i can't afford to spend at the moment.

Well guys, I decided to skip all efforts to service the car and now have it up for sale on octane.ie

Any feedback re the ad would be cool. Thanks

You should try and get in a few pics of the entire car, 1 at an angle from the front and 1 at an angle from the back and get some pics of the rear seats, and perhaps re-take the one of the front with the steering wheel facing straight, it just looks a bit funny like that. Just my 2 p's worth. Best of luck with the sale.

Yeah, really need some pics where it show the full front/side. Looks clean inside and out which helps and I'd say it's priced ok.

Already have organised 2 viewings simply from advertising on Octane alone. Positive result so far.
